Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

WCG needs to fix that if they want this project to run quickly. Server abort should occur if ARP1 WU cannot be returned in 48 hours.

I don't second that. I have ARP1 that are now running 44 hours and still not finished. If the server aborts them energy and resources are wasted.
In the end I am not going to support projects that waste resources.

A started task wont ever be aborted by WCG.

NOT when yours is coming in before the repair. In fact think most of the times credit is still given long as the canonical result is still on the active DB, but chances are small yours then comes in later. It would be an insult to the repair man at that to send a makeup copy, the retarded still comes in and then the repair gets marked too late.

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

Hi all -- I finally snagged a WU this morning. I went into task manager, and it says WCG is only using 328 MB of memory, but the columns "Power Usage" and "Power Usage Trend" both say "Very High" and are highlighted in red. What does that mean? (I have Windows 10.) My core temperature monitoring app is reporting normal temps (50 - 60 degrees C).

It doesn't really mean anything extraordinary other than Windows is detecting a process which is using lots of CPU power, thus using more energy.

A game, even a browser can have the same reading on the task manager.

The ones I'm running right now are saying around 700 MB of Memory using 85% CPU which I have limited it to use on my Win 10 Laptop ...

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

My first (and only) ARP1 ran 13 hours 24 minutes on a Ryzen 3700x (Ubuntu 18.04). As I recall that is considerably longer than the beta.

The project still looks like a beta. All we see is a percentage of completion bar, except with a static picture added.

I am running 4 threads on this Win 7 laptop at 50% computer power to limit heat buildup.

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

For those interested in disk activity:
When I booted it yesterday, one of my xp machines managed to catch an arp unit out of the blue (I'm estimating about 60 hours runtime - the thing's a trooper). It has one of the nice crunchy hard drives, and even processing a single WU on a slower chip, the heads are rarely parking.
From past experiments I expect this to be more read than write activity, but especially if you run a lot of these even a newer machine may start to show it.
If you've got the resources this is probably an excellent candidate to dump on a ram disk (allocate at least 1.2 gb per unit).

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

Will there be a thread dedicated to mini-updates published every month by Caitlin as it is already the case for other WCG projects?
