Re: New Beta Test – May 29, 2019 [Issues Thread]

Got 1 WU yesterday, even after a small power outage that made my computer crash it restarted from the checkpoint and after finishing was validated with no problems. About 17 CPU hours on a i5-7300HQ. The only problem is the checkpoint frequency, if we consider that many people just let BOINC run in background without even opening it and that many of these people don't let their computers run 24/7, a significant amount of CPU time will be wasted.

That’s why it’s called beta testing. cool

Re: New Beta Test – May 29, 2019 [Issues Thread]

The application version has been updated to version 7.23. There are two main things addressed with this update.
First with the last update there was a bug that caused the last checkpoint (at the end of the simulation) to be skipped. This had no effect on the results but if a tasks exited after the simulation completed, but before the post processing was done, it would restart and rerun the final 6 hours of the simulation. This has been fixed and if a task exits during post processing it will now progress directly to post processing on restart.
Second the percent complete calculation has been updated to not show 100% complete until all post processing is complete.
Thanks,
armstrdj

Are there more betas in the works for the 7.23 app?

Re: New Beta Test – May 29, 2019 [Issues Thread]

I loaded all of the follow on work that was available. There are about 700 tasks currently running on 7.23.

Thanks,

Re: New Beta Test – May 29, 2019 [Issues Thread]

The majority of the simulations have completed through the first 10 days, which is all that will run for beta. There are a little under 50 or so that are still running so there may be some resends and follow on work. There will not be any new work submitted for this beta so it will just be a trickle until all simulations complete.
Thanks,
armstrdj

The one resend I mentioned (BETA_ARP1_0001409_004_3) is running now for 49 hours and still a bit over 10 hours to go.
It will be ~23 minutes too late.

Re: New Beta Test – May 29, 2019 [Issues Thread]

I got a resend (BETA_ ARP1_ 0000531_ 004_ 3), calculated it on time, and the status was 'pending validation'. After three days, the status just changed to 'Too late', and didn't get any credit for it. What's going on? I did everything properly.

Re: New Beta Test – May 29, 2019 [Issues Thread]

This is a beta, so there are lots of unusual circumstances and manual operations. As is common for these, it seems that the validator had been stopped. This is because the techs want to run the validator manually under their control, as the validation process is as much a part of the beta as the code which runs on your machine. The change to "Too late" is automatic. At some point the techs will start the validator and, when everything is processed, will then run some scripts to assign points to those participating. In the case of a beta, even WUs that result in an error will usually be granted points as the problem is likely that of the beta code and not your machine.
You may not see the points appear in the result status pages as it is likely that they will be cleared very soon afterwards, but hopefully you will notice a jump in your daily numbers when this is all dealt with. Have faith that you will be recognised for your machine time eventually.
