Re: Is anybody still getting work?

Have you been using some of the HSTB grabbing techniques in the past

Well over half the machines here are normally powered off. When *really* looking for WUs they are all powered on and set for that single project...

Will not happen at the moment though - record breaking hot summer temperatures here in Australia currently - and no AC...

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

I wish! Be nice to have that sort of impact...

In reality they are all old machines that gobble electricity... They work at a very gentle pace commensurate with their age - bit like me since I retired 6 years ago...

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

There are 10 times more units available than in the past! At the same time, the progress bar has returned to 92 %... shock

I think I will stop at the 2 year badge, which will be reach in 15 days approximately.. The 5 years are not possible at the current rate.
And it will leave units for the badges of others! wink

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

Now that HST has filled the queue are there any issues with HST that no one noticed when they one or two at a time??? E.g., big RAM requirements like Rosetta or an L3 Cache hog like MIP.

I run HSTB exclusively on my crunchers since some days and experienced the following:
First, computing times were 15-16 hours per workunit. Then, after some time, on one machine times went up to consistently 20-21 hours. At the same time, CPU temperatures dropped by around 5-7 °C. After some days, my second and third machine showed the same symptom. Now only one is left with consistently 15-16 hours computing time and "normal" cpu temperatures. Rebooting did not change anything, neither running other projects for some time.

All crunchers are Ryzen 1700 or 2700 with 4 GB Ram running Ubuntu 18.04 Server.

Not sure what to make of it. High demand on L3 cache was my first thought, like with MIP. But that does not explain why this happens not on all machines and only after some amount of time.

Does anyone experience similar symptoms?

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

I got six T400 work units validated, one awaiting validation, and two currently running.
They are taking 14.77 to 15.27 hours of CPU time on a 4-core 64-bit Xeon processor with a clock speed of only 1.8 GHz/sec.

CPU0: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2603 0 @ 1.80GHz stepping 07
Performance Events: PEBS fmt1+, 16-deep LBR, SandyBridge events, full-width counters, Intel PMU driver.
NMI watchdog enabled, takes one hw-pmu counter.
Booting Node 0, Processors #1 #2 #3
Brought up 4 CPUs
Total of 4 processors activated (14365.68 BogoMIPS).

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

Is this project really going to finish in April? I have increased the number of threads to 8 to try to reach 5 years, but the number of new units arriving seems to be slowing to a crawl again.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

It didn't sound like ending in her last PR. She was recruiting for more staff and the link to the university job listings is now dead.

Re: Is anybody still getting work?

I got four WUs yesterday, and one to three each day before that for a few days, but none so far today. I hope it hasn't stopped. I just want to get my bronze lungs to prove I was here. :)
