Still having problems with Microbiome Immunity Project downloads. Until a couple of days ago, I had been running Mapping Cancer Markers WUs exclusively with no problems. After adding MIP to my project list, I started getting download failure error messages. These are typical examples:

Interesting that the Windows XP computer had no problems with downloading MIP WUs, but the two Windows 7 computers choked. The Windows 7 computers say they can't access the internet to download MIP WUs, but seem to have no problem accessing the internet to download MCM WUs and upload MCM results.

After running out of work on one computer (a hung download prevents any further WUs from being downloaded), I aborted all MIP downloads and downloaded new MCM WUs. Everything is working correctly again (if I avoid MIP WUs).

BOINC can't access internet... message is issued when the client attempts to ping www.google.com and fails to get a response. At that point WCG is completely out of it. Did the XP machine download a MIP work unit at the same time as the Windows 7 machines were having problems or was there a time lag between when XP was successful and Windows 7 was getting the error. Network errors can be very temporary and can also be machine dependent. Now that everything is working correctly try MIP again and see if you get the same error. You can also open a terminal window and if you see the "can't access internet.." message, issue the ping for www.google.com yourself. If it fails, it's not BOINC or WCG. MIP has large data transfers so is probably more likely to encounter problems with temporary network issues that the other apps might not encounter.

Thanks Doneske. Tried MIM again and was not able to download any WUs. Same error messages as last time.

Did a ping to www.google.com and got the following:

Pinging www.google.com [173.194.67.103] with 32 bytes of data:

Then aborted all MIM WUs. After BOINC cleared the download event log message ("Not requesting tasks: some download is stalled"), was able to again download new MCM WUs.

My next course of action would be to set the file transfer debug option from Boincmgr and try again. It will show a lot more information than the default settings.

Greetings everyone,

Ok, so we believe we have found the issue with the downloads. Basically we were hitting a limit on the load balancer that wasn't being noticed as an issue. From all of the logs and information that everyone provided we were able to add additional monitoring for this and were able to capture it happening. We have made a change to the settings for the load balancer and should not see this issue again. I have been working to modify the monitor the past few days to have it capture the data with the updated configuration.

I've been getting sporadic download failures on FAH2 and MIP that appear to be related to this problem. Got a few failures the past couple of days. Here's the log for one I got this morning. Schedule request pulled 1 MIP unit and 1 FAH2 unit. MIP downloaded fine but the FAH2 download failed. Never experienced this problem on SCC so I don't believe my equipment is the root cause.
