BOINC not operating on Win 10 as expected

If I've come to the wrong forum, I apologize, but I don't understand what's what.

I've run the grid on a Win 7 machine for a long time, and I still do.

Recently, I purchased a new laptop running Win 10 (to replace an old laptop running some version of Windows, but I forget which one). I downloaded the code, and set out to specify the usage parameters; then I saw a notice that doing so locally would override what I'd specified on the web, so I stopped (or at least I think I did), believing that the web specs had served me well for a long time. (My old laptop ran the grid flawlessly for a long time, too.)

On Win 10, I'm getting unwanted periodic full-screen reports on Mapping Cancer Markers, probably one of my projects, indicating n% completed on my computer. I don't want to see this report (or any other unless I explicitly ask for it), but I don't know how to suppress it. On Win 7, I see a menu of several things that I can display, and none of them that I'm aware of just appear without request.

On Win 10, when I click on the icon in the tray, I get a display that says I've chosen Mapping Cancer Markers as a task, but the pull-down list does not allow me to choose anything else ... like none.

What am I failing to understand?

Thanks.

Turn off the screen saver to get rid of the unwanted periodic updates. You can find that by typing "screen saver" in the windows search box. Log into WCG https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ and go to "My Projects". Select the projects you want to run.

I've done what you suggest. I'll check tomorrow to see if it worked. Thanks.
