Hi. I'm a Linux newbie but have worked with command lines for decades so they do not scare me.
----------------------------------------I have a Centos 7.x VM and followed the steps on https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC which were: Redhat/CentOS To Ensure that the EPEL repository is enabled, open a terminal and enter the following command: wget http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm yum localinstall http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-7.noarch.rpm Open a terminal and enter the following command: sudo yum install boinc-client boinc-manager Everything installed ok, but now what? That WIKI page does not tell me what to do next. I looked further down the webpage and tried cd ~/BOINC but the directory does not exist. Ultimately I simply want the machine to run 24x7 at 100% CPU utilization for World Community Grid. Any help would be great! Also, I am remoting into this VM and it does not have a GUI. Thanks. ![]() |

You should now enable boinc-client, start boinc-client and lookup your account at WCG:
(as root) # systemctl enable boinc-client The BOINC directory should now - after your install command - live in ~boinc, not ~/BOINC. |

Thanks! The first 2 lines work, but when I try:
----------------------------------------boinccmd --lookup_account http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org ericinboston mypassword it says "authentication failure". I am typing in my credentials correctly. I also logged out of this forum and back in to double check my account wasn't locked or something. The --lookup_account parameter seems to want the email address instead of ericinboston...I tried that and it still fails. Any ideas? ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by ericinboston at Oct 14, 2018 3:21:58 AM] |

I'm running Fedora Linux, and in my home directory I have a symbolic link:
gui_rpc_auth.cfg -> /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg which needed to be created manually - it wasn't created automatically during the install. |

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd_tool might help you get to grips with the syntax etc
----------------------------------------A machine needs to be attached to world community grid so if you are already running WCG and can go to your settings page you can gather the info and on the new machine: boinccmd --project_attach URL account_key ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by OldChap at Oct 12, 2018 5:16:24 PM] |

My syntax is: boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <the long Account Key from the My Profile webpage> Any other tips? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ericinboston at Oct 14, 2018 3:22:29 AM] |

Sadly, the weak key does not work either. :(

I do not use boinccmd or headless linux but many months ago there were discussions in the forums that https: had to be used in some circumstances instead of http:. It could be worth a try.

But that doesn't work, either. So again folks, I've tried: boinccmd --lookup_account https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org ericinboston mypassword boinccmd --project_attach https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <key> boinccmd --project_attach https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <weak key> boinccmd --lookup_account http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org ericinboston mypassword boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <key> boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org <weak key> ![]() |
