Penalisation for Errors

I live in a city where 'Brown Outs' are relatively frequent and sometimes they cause a premature shutdown of my iMac. Generally BOINC recovers well and continues on its merry way. However occasionally it gets its Bytes in a twist and produces one or two WUs with errors. OK I hear you say, a small loss and I agree. However from that point onwards, despite having produced hundreds of thousands of valid results from this iMac alone, I go through three of four days of punishment where a large proportion of my results languish in PV jail. I really don't understand this knee jerk reaction from BOINC

Re: Penalisation for Errors

The "knee jerk" reaction is a mechanism to ensure computational integrity. If the brown out had caused some inadvertent hardware problem or corruption, this mechanism would catch that. It does need a relatively few work units to return to the status of reliable. However, if there was some problem caused by either hardware or software corruption, the data returned would be suspect and the unreliable status thus would continue until the problem was fixed.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: Penalisation for Errors

I'd suggest to use some UPS for Mac, so that it can get properly shut down when the grid fails. ;)
