Re: EU GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation effective May 25, 2018

One for the admin related to hiding statistics and stopping export to statistics sites, will that include not displaying badges on the forums?

(some here measure the right to speak on how big the collection is, sad)

Leading by example, Microsoft has committed to make the GDPR a global privacy standard, earning them my thumbs up.

Yes. If you choose to hide your data, this will mean that your badges and country (if you've specified it in your profile) will not be visible in the forums.

Thanks,
Juan

Some non-WCG projects have minimum level of work needed to post on their forums.

Re: EU GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation effective May 25, 2018

Got a mail with a link to a very long mumbo jumbo legalize from Weather Underground. Unbeknownst to me, they are since 2015 an wholly owned IBM company. Since 2004 a registered member there, the long text summed up to: "We'll continue to sell your data. If you don't like it, then get out". I just did, in full. BTW, I was a paying subscriber!

I just deleted my account so they not only lost a subscriber but I also had a weather station that was submitting data to the site. They lost that weather data also.

little mermaid, the key principle behind these changes is giving volunteers more control over their personal data, how it's used and accessed, etc. So if people are comfortable sharing where they live, they can still do so!

Re: EU GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation effective May 25, 2018

Considering folks have had TWO YEARS to prepare for this, it's a complete shambles out there. I rang someone this morning and got the standard "This call may be recorded for security and training purposes" recorded message. When the call was answered the first thing I said was "Please do not record this call." Strangely enough, neither the operator nor their supervisor was aware that their system needed to provide the means to either stop recording, or to delete the existing recording if I request it other than at the start.

So much for GDPR.

[Edited to add:] I hung up.
