I should stop BOINC and rejoin thereafter. However, when I try to do that, I'm asked to have an username with at least 4 letters. But then, I loose all work I've done since 2004. Is that right?

Use the same user name and password you have been using. You won't lose anything. It is not necessary to creat a new user name.

This doesn't sound right to me. All I can think of is that you're using some odd version of the client that has (what sounds like) a bug in it. Maybe if you tell us your OS and client version someone could suggest how you might proceed.

Have you tried (after updating your BOINC client):
----------------------------------------Settings (from this website) My profile (login) Change the user name (so you don't loose your credit from before) Save ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by pcwr at Feb 15, 2018 5:38:15 PM] |

Use the Contact Us link and have the techs respond directly to you. They may be able to do something on the back end for you

I'm not sure I'm understanding all of this, so let me recap what has been said, what I know, and what I've discovered:
If you change the membername registered against a particular (numeric) userid, you won't loose any scores (run time, points, results) as these are registered against the numeric id. What does happen is that the post count in the forums will be zero for the new membername as the forums are keyed on that. Reading the help page at www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=namepwprob#409 I see that it now says that "Your member name must be between 6 and 30 characters." so something has changed since WCG's inception. However, if I type a username of less than six characters into the profile page at www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProfile.do and select the link identified by the text "Is this name available?" it happily tells me that short usernames are available. So it seems that the change has been only partially implemented -- and of course it has not been retrospectively enforced. Your username (vepaul) is already six characters, so I'm not sure what the problem is. However, if part of the WCG web site is giving you erroneous error messages, then you should probably contact the techs directly using the form linked to at the bottom of most pages (www.worldcommunitygrid.org/viewContactUs.do). If I'm just being stupid, please take a moment to re-explain exactly what you want to do. (As Pooh says, I'm a bear of little brain.) Thanks! |
