Back in the day we could get a bootable dvd set up to run FAH. Anybody know about a similar client for booting a machine to dvd/usb to bypass windows?

You should still be able to do this. Make the DVD drive or USB drive first or second ahead of the C drive in your boot order in your BIOS.

You could (from linux) create a linux "custom spin" which included boinc, which would do what you are looking for. However, it would be impractical to keep the software current, and you don't want to connect to the Internet with non-current software. More practical, if you want to run boinc under linux, while keeping Windows: 1) run a linux vitural machine under Windows; or 2) install linux on the machine as dual-boot Windows / linux.
