Re: smile smile smile Join "My Online Team" Today smile smile smile

Good one Stefan let us know how you get on. The points allocation seems to be a bit weird (You only get the points when the results have been verified against the same WU's allocated to and returned by other Members)

That's true, points come in only after three other machines got the same
result. So the results are a bit late and you can't exactly compare the
clients yet. Actually I don't know yet if the Linux clients perform better
or worse (regarding points) but what the heck -- I installed it to all my
linux machines now (21 CPUs, 10 more to come soon) and began to kick
out all virtual Win clients. Some dozen pure Win machines will of course
continue to run the Win client. I already buried all those virtual Win clients
that did not complete more than 6 hours on their current work unit but
there are some still running on some huge results. These machines now
run both the Win and the Lin client. When all hybrid systems have been
running only the Lin client for a couple of days, I can see how the output
looks like.

If anybody needs help on how to make the boinc client start automagically
at boot time or anything like that, just drop me a line.

Best, Stefan.

Re: Dear Pconfig

Apart from Pconfigs intro being a bit rude (hey, how often did Graham
want to kill me biggrin ):

I strongly advise against a MOT forum. It will separate us from the WCG
forum (community) which will not only reduce the number of posts in the
WCG forums (less new members will see our posts and join us), it will
also introduce some kind of elite status -- much stronger than the current
"headquarter". Maybe we will still feel connected to the WCG but members
of other teams will feel much more of the "we" and "they" when we even
post at another forum and no longer (or less) post in the community. We
already crunch on another level, we are much better supported and we are
generally better accepted from females (as proved long ago). Don't make
that extra step away from the WCG community or that community will
make the same step away from us.

There's nothing we should have to discuss behind curtains (and those
curtains have holes anyway). If a "private" forum is needed to be used for
flamewars, dirty laundry and bashing of other teams then that's no use
for MOT anyway as we don't do such stuff. If you need that then certainly
there's a team not far away that better suits those needs. If MOT needs
a private forum for team-only discussion then I fear it's not the team I
initially entered.

My clear vote AGAINST a MOT discussion forum outside the WCG forums.

Best, Stefan.

smile Good morning Stefan
I agree with you wholeheartedly

In my opinion, do we need a seperate Forum:

biggrin Am I happy with the current website

biggrin I agree that it could do with a facelift, but that is purely cosmetics

After all his hard work and perseverence, I believe David has the right to the final decisions, regarding MOT website policy
Let's not forget that he has worked hard to foster our team and does a lot of work behind the scenes maintaining the current MOT website

I will get off my now

Dear Mr Autumns! - Here is a a job for you!

smile Good morning David
biggrin While you are between jobs could you possibly pop up to Birmingham and sort out this wiring nightmare on my system
smile As I need it moved to another room and reconnected
laughing Please don't bring any screwdrivers

laughing I need it all networked to my new 7.2 terabite server

biggrin As you like big numbers, I thought I would throw this in

Human complexity in data storage

How many yottabytes would it take to describe a single human being?
Assuming the average adult human is 75 kg (165 pounds), we can determine a rough estimate of how many moles of atoms are in the human body.
Since the body is made up of 65% oxygen, 18% carbon, 10% hydrogen, 3% nitrogen, 1.5% calcium, and other elements, one could use a periodic table to show that the average human body contains about 11,800 moles of atoms.
If one would commit just 100 bytes of information to store the location, type, and state of every atom contained in the body of a human, it would require roughly 590,000 yottabytes!

1 yottabyte = 10/24 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) bytes, or 2/80 (1,208,925,819,614,629,174,706,176) bytes.
This is 10,000,000,000,000 times as much data as a 100-gigabyte hard drive can store

cool Re: Dear Pconfig

Hi, Pconfig. I think I understand your frustration. You should not and must not take the team mates comments on a personal level. They are right in the sense that another forum would not be necessarily constructive for the team. It would dilute the communication stream and yes we would look like a team apart from the others. We are already apart for all the good reasons. smile

However, I do understand, I think, your motivation for creating a forum. It often came across my mind to do such a thing.
But on what subject?
Who would come there?
Further more you probably remember I would be a poor moderator. blushing
But the technical experience by itself could be worth it for you. I do not know how old you are or what your interest spectrum is. But there is a lot to be learn in building such a thing.

I encourage you to pursue that goal. But don’t be disappointed if you don’t get much traffic there. But you will acquire experience that could be useful for other projects later in life.

So my friend go for it, learn has much has you can.
Knowledge is never waisted.

Your team mate Rej.

PS: Why not a collabaration on Dave's web site?

That spagetti no problem Graham biggrin It just needs a good sauce. You don't get anymore points for a drive over 10Gig btw wink

Welcome onboard dkrawczynski, Faizan and Furraymurray thanks for choosing to join our crazy crunching crew. Your member pages are now online and the white box you see there will be replaced at 00:45UTC today by the start of your MOT points graph. If you don't mind please could you drop me an email with the details you would like to see on your pages my email address can be found on the team's website. If you wish to remain anonymous that OK by me too.

Once again thanks for choosing MyOnlineTeam it will be great to see our new starters working their way up through the ranks.

Maranave has signed in I see you are living in God's own country wink I'm originally from Farsley nr Pudsey but it's grim up t'north. I've turned into a southern softy (Even Geoff Boycott now lives in Bournemouth biggrin).

Pconfig I'd like to say thanks you have enthused me to improve our wonderful website - there's always an excuse not to do it, I'm tired usually works for me. But a brief shout out to Mr Wright - Now is the time to launch "Project MyOnline" We've both been sitting on some really nice domain names biggrin and over the coming weeks they will be unveiled to the world. There should be a fair few new tabs to click on. I'll leave it at that I'm coming over all cryptic like Knreed wink

Pconfig would you like a backup copy of the MS SQL database that Aldeb's Java app has created everything you ever wished to know about the performance of anything MOT is in there since about February (definitely July anyway) Then you can generate loadsa stats. I don't wish to put you off we just need some kind of order in our plans. I know you are enthusiastic and I probably let you down earlier in the project by not providing you a PHP resource to work with. You can now work in Coldfusion, PHP, ASP or ASP.NET. If you need any web space to have a play please let me know and I'll set it up for you. I don't like falling out with any of the MOT Crew
