biggrin Re: 24 Hour Deadline too Short

I think the 24h deadline is crazy, even if it's convenient for the reasons given in this thread.

It's not convenient! It's a requirement!!! That's a completely different thing!
I will not be running FAAH2 anymore.

I'll try to pick up the slack! wink biggrin

Re: 24 Hour Deadline too Short

I get why they don't want very long deadlines, but why not at least 48h?

Are you sure? Read it again.... thinking

Was already explained a few days ago and repeated ad nauseam. The tasks have a dependency and a sequence of hundreds. One result forms the base for generating the next step set. With 24 hours deadline and a sequence of 300, they know they'll have a complete simulation series in at most 300 days for that target. If they'd allow the common 7-10 days deadline, they'd not have a simulation complete until 2025.

Enough said.

Yes, I re-read it, and I still get it.

They can have a 24hr deadline if they want, but I think it's too short.

So, double that just for those like you. shock thinking

Re: 24 Hour Deadline too Short

Why not half the deadline to 12hrs then? Get it done in 150 days?

Probably because there are quite a number of machines which are incapable of making a 12 hour limit, but are good for a 24 hour limit. I would call that a compromise to accommodate as many machines as possible and still get the 300 jobs done in a reasonable amount of time.
Cheers

Re: 24 Hour Deadline too Short

Thanks Sgt. Joe, that does make sense.

But I think it does really come down to personal opinion to what the deadline should be. wink

Re: 24 Hour Deadline too Short

I just devote a separate Windows machine to FAH2 (only), and run all the others on Linux machines. It works.
