Oops, sorry. That's the peril of analogies. Trekking makes plenty of sense and, back in the day, was tempting for me. There's plenty I still want to do here at MOT though and that comes first for me. In a lot of ways, trekking is like a DC version of the Friendship Force my parents were very active in. It gave them a chance to make friends around the world long before the internet and in person too. They got to visit 28 different countries in their time, including Cuba as a part of former President Carter's trip there on 2002. For me, that's what teams are for here at WCG - a way for us to get to know each other no matter what part of the world we call home. So keep posting, keep trekking and keep dropping by to visit - often. Nothing to be sorry for, and thank you, I'll do my best I never heard about the Friendship Force, where your parents were active keithhenry. Going to Cuba with President Carter – that must have been something – not to mention 27 other countries. They must have been on the road a lot of the time. You’re right. Base Camp could easily be seen as the WCG equivalent of that. Meeting people in person and getting an impression of their daily lives wherever they live is a boon. The internet isn't bad either  Captains have to stay on the bridge, and I think you do a wonderful job as a captain here. - and now you speak smalltalk as well!  Wonderful BTW, it would seem crazy Danes are a lot like hillbillies - the north side huh? He must of not seen much point in trying to do it the "easy" way. He-he, hillbillies and hobos As to Klavs Becker-Larsen (he died a month ago at age 91) and Mount Everest: During his attempts he was the first one to try to climb from the south side, but he had to give it up because of the danger from large ice avalanches. Before that he was a lumber jack in what was then Belgian Congo with my friend, his little brother, and while he went to Nepal to climb, my friend went to Kenya and drilled wells. They met again in India, canoed on the Ganges and trekked through Afghanistan, Pakistan, Persia, Mesopotamia toward the Mediterranean Sea. At that time it must have been quite an adventure. What have you done in real life with the trekking DNA your parents may have passed on to you, keithhenry? |

LM, I'm pretty much a home-body these days. I've been to someplace in all 50 states with the exceptions of Washington, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Outside the US, I've been to Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, France, Macau and Hong Kong. I'm not into cattle cars so it's been a very long time since I've been on a plane. Going somewhere really new or different would involve flying and it's not worth the trouble these days.
