I'm glad that this is being looked into, as I definitely had the impression that performance suffered if I was running more than 4 MIPS WUs at once on my 4C/8T lappie (Intel processor running Ubuntu). I didn't do enough analysis to be completely sure of that, though I did wonder if it was anything to do with sharing data files if the WUs were from the same batch.
I've also noticed over the last few days that the credit from MIPS WUs is very variable compared to SCC. When running the two there have been odd times when MIPS scored more than SCC, though I've also seen it scoring about two thirds the rate. I reckon it averages out at something like 10-15% less though, again, I don't do detailed analysis. Good luck tracking down the issue. |

Hi armstrdj,
----------------------------------------I've just saw your message and I immediately applied the recommended change and I reselected MIP1 additionally to other projects. Your feedback is much appreciated. It is a good thing to notice that the reported problem is finally addressed. Cheers, Yves |

From the Rosetta@Home front page, where the MIP1 science app comes from
"The Rosetta application has been updated to 4.04 for Windows platforms The "rosetta" application has been updated to 4.04 for Windows platforms to address the Windows BOINC client 7.8.2 issues. This is a relatively recent version of the Rosetta software source and will eventually replace the "minirosetta" application. Please report issues/bugs in this thread. 5 Oct 2017, 17:43:12 UTC" |

limit MIP1 to two concurrent tasks you would need to create the file app_config.xml in the World Community Grid project directory. The WCG project directory is in the BOINC data directory under projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org. This is an example of the contents: <app_config> <app> <name>mip1</name> <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> </app> </app_config> Thanks for the suggestion armstrdj! Have applied new file and now supporting MIP1 again! |

We are working with the researchers and the application developers to identify the issue. If anyone would like to limit the number of concurrent runs that MIP1 can use there is a method in BOINC to limit this. For example to limit MIP1 to two concurrent tasks you would need to create the file app_config.xml in the World Community Grid project directory. The WCG project directory is in the BOINC data directory under projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org. This is an example of the contents: <app_config> <app> <name>mip1</name> <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> </app> </app_config> For more details here is the BOINC documentation. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ClientAppConfig Thanks, armstrdj Dear Armstrdj, I run MACs and I cannot find where I should put this app_config file. In fact I cannot find a BOINC data directory. Any help would be appreciated.

Well this is interesting.
----------------------------------------Jobs from two different projects with similar runtime, run on the same PC, on the same day, but vastly different credit. I don't mind the credit either way as I do support both projects regardless of the credit. Just thought it was interesting. SCC1 project - 0.70 of an hour runtime, consistently around 45.8 points MIP1 project - 0.70 of an hour runtime, consistently around 7.8 points (MIP1 project was limited to 2 concurrent jobs. same credit/time when 1 concurrent job) This occurred in the last 12 hours of processing. [edit] Thought I had better add an example of the MIP1 job MIP1_00013130_0138 [Edit 1 times, last edit by rod4x4 at Oct 30, 2017 2:09:40 AM] |

RTS48, the BOINC data directory on MAC should be located at /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/ and then in there should be a projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org directory to create that file in.
Thanks, armstrdj |

Thanks, armstrdj Thank you. I have learned that my Mac has two library directories, one under my account and the other in the main Mac HD - I've tried the edit and will now wait to see what happens. I suspect that I need to do this for evry Mac that I run.
