Hello Little Mermaid. happy to see your back and trying to get the base campers going again.

[Thank you B2I.
Sorry for the OT in this thread - but how else to get in touch? What would you - you in the plural - suggest since we don't have a back stage PM - personal messages?] |

Dutch joke:
In a henhouse we picture a flock of chicken and they are clucking. Clucking like mad. Suddenly two of them look each other in the eye, the first one fearful, sweatdrops are falling, the second one, like Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver: "Are you tokking to me?" ('tok' is the sound a Dutch hen produces when clucking, sounding the same as 'to talk': tok-tok-tok-tok) |

Below are my stats from running MBI only for several days. I didn't change anything with any computers, all running only MBI. As you can see there has been a significant drop in points. I just opened up to all tasks. will post after the MBI WUs clear.

This shows no drop in runtime, which contradicts discussion in another thread as were lots of that lost... bar that the purpose of points is to measure performance is thoroughly sunk [The credit system is oh so broken and will continue to be
], don't care much about this metric. |

The credit system is oh so broken and will continue to be, don't care much about this metric. I disagree partially with this statement. Surely, the credit system could be better, more reliable, and finally more equitable. However, based on this credit system, it is possible to discover some science malfunctions and inappropriate behaviours. Complaining against the credit system without considering the proved inadequate science performance is for me similar to the ostrich putting its head into the sand. Cheers, Yves |

I've been a volunteer contributor to WCG for years and the points meant little more than a way to keep track of how well you were doing and an occasional friendly competition between buds or teams. Now that I've starting mining Gridcoin and trying to make enough to pay for my electricity, I've starting paying more attention. the amount you mine is directly related to your long term RAC and your RAC related to others RAC who crunch the same project. They look at WCG as one big project. So, If one research project within WCG (like MBI) starts reducing points for what ever reason, while others stay steady or rise, my coins per day go down.
----------------------------------------To me personally, this is still not that big a deal. I'm not trying or expecting to get rich with Gridcoin. With 7 average i5/i7 machines running 24/7 i mine about 12 coins per day which exchange for about 3.5 cents or 42 cents; when MBI was putting more points I made a few cents more. It's more the adventure of the new than making money. But take a look at the gridcoin teams on boincstats. These teams are starting to dominate BOINC. Soon, I believe the scientists will have to pay attention to the gridcoiners and make sure they keep the rewards fair or the chrunchers will switch projects. Gridcoin also has a thing called "Rain". I enables anyone, to include the research scientists to send rewards in the form of gridcoins to teams and individuals that gave them outstanding support. They go to digital currency exchanges and buy coins with real money and rain it down. I suspect the gridcoin phenomena can and probably will change the nature of BOINC. ![]() |

Of couse, Bitcoin was worth about 1-3 cents in May of 2010; today the exchange price closed at $5840.01
----------------------------------------Hmmmmmm About getting rich part......12 coins per day time $5000..... ![]() ![]() |

I've come a little late to this discussion but can report that my points count has dropped off the edge recently despite my computers reporting the same run time as before.
----------------------------------------When I was running a mix of SCC and MIP a week or so ago I was reporting a steady ~70,000 or so points a day. There were far more SCC than MIP and the WU process times were similar for both at around 1h 30m. Suddenly yhe number of MIP available ahs soared and the WUs are taking over 4 hours each. My points yield has droppeddon to ~45,000 / day. These MIP WUs have been sent out with the same estimated Gflops as the previous ones meaning that now you get the same points for 4 hours crunching that you did for 1h 30m crunching. I notice that some of the latest MIP WUs are reporting that they will take 7 hours or more. The researchers really need to get their act together as this sort of performance is just not good enough. Not only do the low points demotivate some of the WCG members but the variable times also screw up individual computer scheduling which may result in late submission of completed WUs and further loss of points and CPU time.
