Use ASIC miners to run worldcommunitygrid tasks

Hello,

I´m using worldcommunitygrid on my laptop since 2006. My current laptop has an Intel i5-4300u CPU, therefore not really powerful. Also the GPU can`t be used for boinc.

For bitcoiin mining there are many asic miners available. Even if I would buy a older one which is outdated for Bitcoin mining, this one would be much more powerful than my laptop alone. Is it possible to use such a asic miner? The only thing I could find was "Bitcoin Utopia" which do nothing else than bitcoin mining and donate them to boinc projects. Thats not what I´m looking for, I want to use them directly to calculate the projects.

So is there a way to pimp my laptop with a USB GPU or such a old asic miner? I don`t want to spend high amounts in hardware.

ASICS = Application Specific Integrated Circuit(s)

Do your ASICS have the same functionality as an Intel x86/x86_64 code based CPU? No of course not, therefor, they can't be used at WCG.

You can always look into using cheap android devices to raise your contribution. There is a thread in the android support forum where people post good deals on refurbished android phones, tablets, etc. Low power draw, and there are several projects that are currently running on android (I believe FAAH1, Zika, and OET are the ones currently running).

You can grab a Raspberry Pi, which has a compatible processor for WCG...
All you need to do is put Android on R.Pi & crunch on WCG! wink
