Would member Syracuse University please share with us what type of crunchers he/she has that can can return more than 20,000 results per day on less than three days runtime? I may need to get one of those.

Those are stats for the TEAM Syracuse University. I'm talking about the MEMBER Syracuse University. |

Right, this member is not member of the team of same name. Most curious ratios of statistics:
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 15:325:09:32:54 (#11,467) Points Generated 1,451,413,196 (#39) Results Returned (Rank) 1,811,444 (#71) |

I would guess there's a university wide account, as that user has over 9,000 installations to their credit. If so, great to see an institution putting their spare resources to work.

But there's more to the story. According to the Statistics page of that member - https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/vi...ame=Syracuse%20University - the Avg. Run Time Per Result (y:d:h:m:s) is 0:000:00:04:31 and still dropping (I remember 4:33 yesterday and 4:37 the day before yesterday). Four and a half minutes per Result! How?
Let's look at yesterday's results https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewStatsByMemberY.do?sort=points (by member). Member IBM - https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewMemberInfo.do?userName=IBM - doesn't even come close in average runtime per Result: IBM's doing 0:000:03:06:12 (3 hours per Result). |

This needs the tech's attention. Something is clearly wrong here.

Reminds me of a past case where, ahum, knreed had to do something extra to the validator after a similar observation by a member on warped individual stats. Picture this: You have results break off early so as not to cause an instant error message... the task goes in PV goes Invalid and half of the canonical credit(points) is granted. In the charts I don't see an immediate outright candidate science where this could be the case. Maybe Zika where credit/hour remain high [project wide] since the new app version got launched. In this scenario the daily quota does not go down which direct errors would cause. Could of course be entirely innocent, but an insider's viewing is certainly called for.

One more thought on the matter... maybe the member's devices OS/Client combo has large scale trouble reporting the runtime correctly [we've seen incidences]. At least, 27K results in past 24 hours and ~9 seconds / result is not something mortals can comprehend.

I took a look at the devices and results for them. They have a nice cluster up and running (based on quick google searching it looks like they are back filling a condor grid with work from us). The elapsed time being reported by the results is in the range you would expect - but they are all being reported as 0.0 cpu time. We see this once in awhile on different devices and it usually has to do with how the client was installed.
However - the important thing here is that they are returning legitimate and valid work for the program. They won't earn many badges with things this way, but since they have been contributing like this for a couple of years, I'm guessing that they are ok with that. |
