btw, some Androids can be turned on without battery...so maybe you should do that if you plan on 24/7 option?!

Jack007 do you know how many cpu's did you devote to curnching on your phone? Was it all of them?
----------------------------------------Currently I am using an LG 4 phone and only using half the processors as using all of them consistently increased the temperature too much to have it constantly suspend its activities. I also remove the cover during the night as that helps expel the heat. ![]() |

Vlado,
----------------------------------------yes both cores crunching when plugged and over 90% I think. But this time, I am leaving the cover off, have the cover on the back not completely closed for airflow, plus raising it slightly so air can get underneath. The otter box was quite the insulator. And since I have 2 batteries now (or will when the 2nd shows up) I can prob crunch for up to 4 more years maybe longer. Due for a new phone in aug, so this one will just crunch. The note 7 is coming out, the S series just too small for me P.S. I don't carry the phone around that much that there is much chance of me dropping it anymore so the Otter box is retired. I get a job and start carrying it all the time then I'll not crunch. Maybe with my new phone I'll do 50% crunching. Sounds like a good idea. ![]() |

btw, some Androids can be turned on without battery...so maybe you should do that if you plan on 24/7 option?! Name one android phone which can run without its battery. It's possible that one exists, but most lg/samsung/chinese/whatever phones won't turn on at all. ![]() |

RTFM [Reading The Friendly Manual] https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Android_FAQ AFAICR, there was a request to let the Android client run without battery, as there are Android devices [seemingly], that haven't one, but not heard what came of it. [Pretty sure] the Odroids run without battery, but those are not [smart]phone devices, so guess that answers the [does it run Android 'computers' without battery part] :D [Ask the dev = Rom on the gmail beta test group list or other Berkeley expert] The 90% charge level in the FAQ is the 'out of the box' agent setting. [Tropics] Rant end. ;O)))) P.S, my run of the mill Samsung does not power up without battery, but Samsung is not 'some' :P) |

When I first launched BOINC and attached, it was paused and wanted to wait for the battery charge to go up. A quick change in settings to drop battery to 10% and BOINC has been running great ever since. Also, another way to power a phone without battery is to buy one of those cheap little adjustable voltage power supplies. Set it to the voltage and amps your phone needs to run, attach an alligator clip or similar to the positive and negative in the battery compartment, and you completely bypass the battery. |

Yes that works, the apparent norm though is that the power feeds into the battery and the battery feeds the device. Thing is, the battery of my phone has like 5 connectors... which one to pick to not blow some capacitor? Guess if you have a 10 dollar thing and the right equipment, you could pre-determine which is which and use that route.
