Re: Limited Launch Again?

OK I forgot about the cap. But if a computer is only on for a few hours a day, then it can still download too many to do in the time.
35 x 3 hours = 105 hours if the computer runs 4 hours a day that is 26 days work.
Or 8 hours a day on a 5 day week - that is 2 1/2 weeks.
I have lots of work pending over the 7 or 10 days limit. I think some people run a 10 day cache. I normally run mine on 0.02 day. The admins are so good and WCG so stable that is enough most of the time.
Unless the work runs out - like now.

Re: Limited Launch Again?

Maybe you forgot this too, a part time computer only requests part-time volumes of work (the active fraction based). If you run a parttime computer and still want to buffer multiple days of work, the mirror is the place to look as to whom the finger could get pointed at when things blow up.

And yes some work goes over deadline in validation terms, no reply, someone going off for a week and many other reasons, but the validation is like 4 days or less for over 90%

I'm sorry, but the conversation is slipping into stretch. The techs could have delayed the project to double dot the eyes... Time to swallow the frust and move on.

Re: Limited Launch Again?

If people had set a cache of 5 days to try and get TB work they would have downloaded Zika work estimated at 15 minutes actual about 3 hours ( 12 times the estimate) That is 60 days worth of work could have been downloaded.
Later changes in the estimated time is no use after the damage has been done.
Then Marist College has downloaded over 50K work units.

Our cache settings are 0.3 days / 0.0 days extra. We have lots of computers. Finals are over, so most lab machines (~1,000) are currently idle and just crunching all day. Current tallies are 7,655 valid, 20,100 PV, 29,940 in progress. Also, I'm seeing about 1.5 hrs/average for a Zika unit. Some under an hour, some a little more than 2. Most in the middle.

We aren't filling caches with WUs that won't be executed for several days...but we are waiting on ~20,000 wingmen.

Re: Limited Launch Again?

So, did this project launch? Is it a limited work project again? Is it over already?
Not the 'tude to have, dude. All project launches have some teething issues (some more than others). You should know that by now. We should all be grateful to be able to participate in a effort provide help in fighting a terrible disease like Zika. Crunch on.

Re: Limited Launch Again?

As at 14:30 UTC, per front page...

Opening the search for a Zika cure Tasks Returned Today: 106,760

Far from limited, I'd say, but, looking at the combined stats, there appears to be a major manual zika hunt ongoing... just 209 years this morning, where last week Friday morning had 235 years validated. Not participating in the foray... just had the project auto-added to all profiles to what I've been crunching and still have about 4 dozen queued across 3.5 machines in the range of 1 to 9 hours each... good enough to soon be able to regain entrance to the exclusive Club Max. :D
