FAH2 WU names

I wondered for some time about the WU names but i couldn't find anything about it.
Why are some WU's named

FAH2_000091_avx38782_000012_0032_009_wcgfahb00030000

And some without wcgfahb? Small thing i know but just wondering smile

Re: FAH2 WU names

You did not look hard enough ;p . uplinger (maybe seippel) explained it somewhere, it having to do with the fact that the unit stems from a broken result in the previous run that only went to 30000, so yours goes from say 30000 to 130000 since all tasks, except the last in a 3 or 4 million step sequence contains 100,000 steps to compute. Anyway find the uplinger or seippel post in this forum that clarifies this.

edit: actually -most- will be without the wcgfahb suffix to indicate it's a broken offset work unit, at least that's what I've seen when doing FAH2.

FAH2_000066_avx17379_000036_0017_023_1 (normal)
FAH2_000064_avx17375_000093_0037_022_wcgfahb00070000_0 (broken offset)

In the latter case it is a 100,000 block of a task that started originally at 2,200,000 but because only 7 trickles were send of 10K, starts at 2,270,000 (sort of).

The WU numbering contains a piece that has meaning to the scientists, and another piece that is used by WCG to uniquely index the result in the BOINC system.

Re: FAH2 WU names

Am a bit confused myself as to how many steps those intermediate WU units do... until now was convinced they always are set to do 100,000 but this reply suggests is can be more (maybe to get back to an even number), and thus the final in the sequence not being the tail end in your case 2930000 to 3000000.

"As for questions on workunits like what ca05065 has seen, Every work unit sent out has the command to run 100k steps. The researchers have said that they would like to have 100k steps per generation. Going over is good as it provides more details. So in the example provided by ca05065, the first generation _001 did a total of 160k steps (just more details for the researchers). As for the next generation, it will start with just _002. It will not have the wcgfahb00060000."

See https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=504350

uplinger elsewhere [and later I think] wrote the scientist preference for each generation block to do a minimum of 70000 or 80000 steps (7 - 8 trickles), to be a useful result.

In short, I'm at loss as to what the facts are these days, not having touched this project for months to be able to see into logs of the different results that tell on the number of trickels.
