Re: Welcome to the Help Stop TB Project

The output file can be up to 10MB, so small data plans would get killed soon i.e Wi-Fi only if it were technically possible to port. During beta looked for an android implementation but found zip other than ibercivis also making use of gromacs http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/new_projects.py

Are we anticipating another low priority project due to lack of disk space to store the returned data. The units I've seen so far, are uploading close to 6MB each. At 100,000 WUs per day, that would be about 600GB if I have all my commas, periods and zeros correct.

Tell the researchers, "Welcome to the big leagues...."

Hi and thanks for your interest.
The short answer out of our perspective: no
The more detailed one if interested: 90% of the returned data are only needed to create new WUs based on your results. Approx 10% is cumulative data.
Further, we will also include much faster running WUs with a different balance. We expect a data accumulation of 50GB/day in peak time, which will further be analysed and reduced on our end. However, this workflow needs careful testing (data flow, bandwidth synchronisation etc), which is the reason for a relatively "slow" start
I hope this shed a bit light on the technical side on our end

Re: Welcome to the Help Stop TB Project

Christof,

Again welcome to the grid!
We really appreciate when the scientists are active on the forums.
It keeps us even more motivated. Hope this continues.
Good luck!!

Re: Welcome to the Help Stop TB Project

Snipquote "90% of the returned data are only needed to create new WUs based on your results."

So like FAH2, Inter-dependencies... sit on the job in the client buffer, no new work being generated [In the hardest interpretation, but maybe it's not as direct... lots more work in the transitioner-feeder assembly than we could ever return in the now 10 day deadline]. We'll see how the daily flow develops / slash if more than a few start arriving between the other WCG project selections.

100,000 at 6-10MB or 600GB/Day is more than what CEP2 seems to chew these days. Are we uploading to WCG or to Robin Hood's region directly. [Not looked where it goes... no alarmbells either on unapproved IP destinations]

Re: Welcome to the Help Stop TB Project

Thanks Chris for the quick answer. It sounds like the research team has a plan to manage the data on their end. However, assuming your answer is correct, even if the faster running WUs generate only half the amount of data of the larger WUs WCG could return double the # of WUs in a day. We have standard priority projects now that complete between 400,000 and 500,000 WUs per day.

The next question would be the WCG side of the equation. It sounds like the 6MB / WU doesn't get reduced until it is sent back to the researchers, correct?. If that is the case, are there resources to handle the high volume of data at WCG until it can be sent back to Nottingham. For the long running work units, WCG is accumlating the 6MB / WU and we already have one project that is running low priority due to the amount of data being held until it can sent back to the researchers and it "only" averages about 1MB per work unit coming back to WCG. At 50,000 to 100,000 WUs / day, which is conservative here and about average for low priority projects, the amount of data coming back to WCG would be quite large. It would be an adventure after a maintenance window or an extended outage for the accumulated data to be sent back to WCG.

I just put your introductory article on my sciencesprings blog, which reaches over 700 people who might otherwise not see WCG.

Re: Welcome to the Help Stop TB Project

Maybe this thread could be kept to topic and not task failure report and fixing... kindly move that to a separate thread.

Welcome to WCG. :-)

As I was a child, I have had TB myself for a lot of years.
Today I got the first WUs and I know, what to do with them. biggrin

Re: Welcome to the Help Stop TB Project

Can somebody correct me if I'm wron about app_config configuration for HST1:

  <app>
<name>hst1</name>
<user_friendly_name>Help Stop TB</user_friendly_name>
<max_concurrent>X</max_concurrent>
</app>

where X is a number of desired WUs to crunch in same time.
