The thought of nearing the end of many sequences in the batch 000-105 series is strengthened, for the runtime average dropped to 10.7 hours this morning, with a further reduction in returns to 16,9K. Many of those sequences will end in a task that have less than 100,000 steps in them because somewhere in the chain, one result was not fully completed... not all trickles send back in time. Anyway, those who crunch this project can easily determine where their tasks are fitting in the picture.

Count me as skeptical, Sekerob. If the first 70 or so batches needed thirty or forty iterations, wouldn't the rest of the batches in the same experiment also need similar iterations?
An alternate hypothesis: Something has broken down and iterative work units will be generated again once it is fixed. |

Sigh, you can see for yourself what the iteration number is on the work assigned to your comps. We know for a fact that 105 has been in circulation for a while and as we work through, previously, earlier released batched will have gotten further into their stepping sequence, to the point of hitting the last and possible truncated units. [And absolutely no one has said any of the 105 batches will have less than 30 resp. 40.]

To explain the truncation: If at any time in the 3000000 or 4000000 steps one work unit did not complete 100000 steps [standard size], for instance only 50000, the next one will have 100000 again [as was explained by techs] all the way to where the 30th/40th WU gets to 2950000 / 3950000. This means the final task will have only 50000 steps, 5 trickles. Those in larger numbers will influence the average runtime down, and that is what I'm reasoning as what we're seeing.

SekeRob, everything you're saying rings true, but isn't it too early?
Right before the work units went quiet, I was seeing plenty of WUs from experiment 70-79 with five or six runs left, and the 80-105 batch was approaching the halfway mark. Of course, it's possible that my work units were not representative. |

Whatever it is, this morning we show lowest average runtime since start of projects. Who knows, the techs of course, there is a sudden abundance of broken off tasks and no followup sequences being generated. It's Friday evening so not expecting much illucidation .

Oh well, currently sitting this weekend with not HST and now now new FAH2 WUs to crunch. I guess my laptop just gets to work on tax returns this weekend .....

I've been getting a slowing trickle of FAHB WUs, including 2 about 6hrs ago, but I expect all will be done shortly.
The lack of comment from the techs or scientists about this work drought has me thinking ... In the Feb 16 update, the scientists said that up until then they'd mostly been experimenting to determine the best way to use the new-to-them BEDAM program in their search for leads to drugs against HIV. They should by now to be able to see whether they are getting the sorts of results that they are seeking, and they may have paused sending out new work while they conduct more analysis. I hope I'm just being too pessimistic, but there exists the possibility thet BEDAM is not giving the results they need, and they may decide to scrap this phase of Fight AIDS at Home ? (((hopes to draw some comment))) |
