It didn't worked for me... However, by changing the url in the files:

client_state_prev.xml
client_state.xml
sched_reply_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml

With the ones listed above, it worked !

Thank you ledav.net. It works for me.

I noticed that in my 3 files (client_state_prev.xml; client_state.xml; sched_reply_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml), the urls of those png and gif files were https://BDD7.https.cdn.softlayer.net/80BDD7/g...boinc/download/slideshow/

So I just stop the client and then replace all "https://BDD7.https.cdn.softlayer.net/80BDD7/g...boinc/download/slideshow/ " by "https://grid.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/download/slideshow/ ".

Restart boinc and solved the problem.

...Orrrrr, you skip the problem altogether by upgrading to the 'release candidate' 7.6.29, which just ignores any stuck slideshow files that fail to download [not mission critical!]

Android: There's no newer build than 7.4.41 [absent a developer].

There are Vbox builds of 7.6.29, but this is N/A for WCG.

I'm having same problem with latest 7.6.29 cliente.
I've manually downloaded 44 files (pngs and gifs) but still the log says:

Same problem here !!!
I've set up a boinc client on a Debian 8 jessie, fresh install, and only 1 completed task during those 2 days... And there are those messages in the log tab.

Of course, it has been possible to download the 1st task with this workaround :

The problem is changing... sadly the computer can't run tasks....... download is stuck........

To those who are running recent versions of Linux and are having problems with WCG data transfers:

Applies to:
Debian version 8 (Jessie), starting with v8.3, also present in v8.4 (released 2 Apr 2016), and other Linux distributions derived from these, eg Ubuntu.
(It may have been fixed in Debian v9 (Stretch), but Stretch is still in "testing" mode and isn't due to be declared "stable" until Jan 2017. If you use it, be prepared to report any bugs that you encounter.)

With v8.3, the Debian developers upgraded their SSL (https) implementation, and it no longer works out-of-the-box with WCG's implementation. Einstein@home is also broken by this.

You might also introduce the problem if you apply later updates to an older version of Linux without upgrading its version.

The good news is that there are fairly easy workarounds.

Easiest fix:
As suggested by WCG tech knreed here,
"You can download this file: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BOINC/boinc/master/curl/ca-bundle.crt and put it into the data directory for your client. After restarting the client you should be able to connect."
Note that it goes into the highest level of the BOINC data directory (default is /var/lib/boinc-client on Debian), not the WCG subdirectory.
Reinstalling boinc-client will probably overwrite this version of ca-bundle.crt.

Slightly harder fix:
Downgrade theDebian system certificates file to the one from v8.2, as suggested by Christian Beer at Einstein@home, refined by Team XS' PoppaGeek here :
wget http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/201...ificates_20141019_all.deb
sudo dpkg --purge --force-depends ca-certificates
sudo dpkg -i ca-certificates_20141019_all.deb
sudo apt-mark hold ca-certificates

Last command prevents updates from over writing what you just did.
These changes should survive future BOINC reinstallations as well as OS updates.

Symptoms:

  • Can't attach newly-installed BOINC client to WCG. Messages like "Failed to attach. Please try again later".
  • File transfers fail. Messages like: "transient HTTP error. Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site. Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down."
    If you turn on http_debug in your cc_config.html, you will get: "[http_debug] HTTP error: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates"
  • Stuck ("stalled") file transfers may prevent your BOINC client downloading new work.

(Use the bold black "Search" link to the left of the text box above - confusing!!)

My 8 core box is stopped on account of the tiniest of .png files - some graphic for a feature I never use. I just want to crunch. This isn't the first time. How many people out there think the are crunching for the great projects on the World Community Grid are downloading wcg-v01.png forever and not a single work unit in sight?
