Thread: A client for iOS &/or Windows Phone sounds like a good idea |

ETA: regarding Apple restrictions. Jailbroken iOS devices would definitely be able to run BOINC. So, why there is (still) not an agent for them? Methinks it is due to: (1) iOS devices are created to run the things for what they were created and they are not capable to run such extensive copmuping, or (2) Jailbreak community is not interested in any charity programs (only in stealing the applications), or (3) the creators of Jailbreaks are not interested in such charity programs (only in stealing of data from Jailbroken devices) I think it's more likely because the official BOINC people at UC Berkeley don't want to be associated with jailbreaking, since it would be they who submit the app to the third-party distribution channels. But, there's nothing preventing a community group from compiling their own client and submitting it, which is exactly how the official Android client came to be; the community did it first (NativeBOINC, AndroBOINC) and then the official channels followed suit. Of course, the "follow on" of an official client wouldn't be possible until the licensing terms for iOS were revised, or an app were submitted by an individual project. |

As I recollect the NB and AB agents did not involve jailbreaking, then the follow on question being, which project is going to allow jailbreaking compilation of their [open source] science apps and accept results from those and how to reach quorum, let alone which are going to port the closed source, which is usually where the humanitarian research is.

noderaser ans SekeRob* - this is exactly what I meant mentioning JB "community".
----------------------------------------iOS devices are not like Android ones. Instead of 4+-cores CPUs needed in Android pocket computers or tablets to be able even to run, they are equipped with more humble processors (and other HW) and combined with iOS they do what they should do. For shrubbing I am going to use my desktops (and when I say Desktop, I really mean Desk, not Lap). They are happy when the temperature of their components is (+-) constant and they can keep it constant. As opposite to Pocket Computers, Tablets and Laptops. I can recommend Samsung Powersleep. http://www.samsung.com/at/microsite/powersleep/ As far as I know, it is at least for Android. But maybe it works also for iOS and /or WindowsPhone? Just a polite note. All the best for all fellow crunchers MS |

Hello again,
I wanted to make this thread somehow complete by looking up the FAQ on the website http://www.samsung.com/at/microsite/powersleep/ and adding, whether samsung powersleep really is for Android only, and whether it works on APPLE IPhone IOS or windows phone too, But I cannot do this, because with my firefox on my standard PC this part of the website is not accessible. I cannot scroll on this website at all. Maybe the website is for mobile phones only and not for normal PCs. Could someone of my fellow crunchers please go to the FAQ of http://www.samsung.com/at/microsite/powersleep/ and publish here, under which operating systems samsung Powersleep really works?
