Interesting CPU issue (non-scaling)

moved from an Intel E5-2620 v3 (6 cores/12 threads) to an Intel E5-2630 v3 (8 cores/16 threads) on Windows 8.1 Pro.

Memory is 64/96Gb quad channel, ECC/Reg DDR4-2133.

My PPD has actually stayed flat even though I'm completing 4 extra units concurrently.

any ideas as to what's going on here?

cheers,

D

Re: Interesting CPU issue (non-scaling)

They both have a base of 2400 MHz and turbo up to 3200 MHz. And the same TDP of 85 watts. Perhaps the 6 core can turbo higher when running the WCG.

Re: Interesting CPU issue (non-scaling)

1. - a new WUs on a new proc have to be confirmed (except in FAHB project)...so wait a while!
2. - a 2620 is a better at single core processing...look here:

E5-2620 v3 (6 cores/12 threads) turbo to 2.6 fully loaded

E5-2630 v3 (8 cores/16 threads) turbo to 2.6 fully loaded

How many days running the new setup and is this the same ssd?

It can take a while to settle even if you are running the same single project, the cpu % and max cores available is auto

Re: Interesting CPU issue (non-scaling)

@OldChap,

same system and everything. nothing new has been added or removed except for the processor and the memory (moving from 4 * 16 per channel to 4*16+4*8 per channel).

@KliK,
probably true. I'd wager, though, that the increased L3 cache (5mb or so) in addition to the additional cores should outweigh the overall performance of the 2620. lol. anyway...good link. I run this fully dedicated to WCG right now so, 16 work units at a time.

cheers,

D
