Hey all,
First of all my English isn't my main language so sorry for the bad sentences and grammar. I was wondering if it is possible to share a account with other people and all install WGC on phones all around the world, like in phone stores or other stores that sell cellphones. Only phones that can be used by anyone. Has anyone suggestions if it's possible or someone wants to help with the idea? Thanks I'm advance, PuCoGr |

Yes, I think it is possible, not necessarily a good idea. The manufacturer could bundle the BOINC software with every phone like other software they include (bloatware), but there are numerous problems with getting BOINC to run effectively on a phone. Battery issues, overheating, not being able to use all cores among others. Those who wish to use their phones to run BOINC do so successfully, they opt in to this knowing what they are getting into. It is not as easy as just putting the software on and then just running it without some thought being put into how the phone will be used. Perhaps one of those running BOINC on a phone would like to chime in.

HTC has a customized BOINC app [full it is said **]. The app has default a heat protection [battery temp detector], 40C or so but I've set it down to 35C and hardly ever see it kick in [out in the sun]. And, it is set to only run when the screen is off, so even before you can pick it up and dial a number BOINC is paused. Those who have most problems are the ones who mess with the low load defaults it seems.

I like buttons, lots of buttons. [Edit 1 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Oct 19, 2015 12:27:43 PM] |

It's usually only advisable to run BOINC on a phone or other mobile device when it's plugged in and has reached a certain charge percentage so that you actually make progress on the charging since the amount of power a USB port or charger can provide is variable.
----------------------------------------Regarding using one account on other people's devices, you can give out something called a "weak account key" that will allow you to attach a BOINC project to your user account, but not allow access to the account on the web to modify preferences, etc. While there are apps sponsored by some of the phone companies (Samsung and HTC) I don't know if you could install them with a pre-existing account, as that would violate the terms of the BOINC software agreement. You can only install and run BOINC on devices for which you have permission from the owner. |

You could install them with a pre-existing account, but you would just need to have a prompt alerting the user first to get them to accept the terms. This is essentially what SONY did on a lot of their Vaios in the past..
----------------------------------------And I've never tried to use a weak account key on the official Android BOINC app from Berkeley. I wonder what that process is. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Oct 22, 2015 1:16:59 AM] |
