Ignore list

Erika, please, with a sugar on the top, consider putting "ignore user list" feature for this forum to your to-do list. And consider, please, with the sugar on the top, moving its priority highest possible. ASAP, please. Otherwise lot of crunchers (and some shrubbers) are going to breach forum rules regularly. Unfortunatelly for the forum and for WCG sad

TIA and cheers

Re: Ignore list

branjo, what I always try to remember, is that, "If two people think exactly the same, then one of those individuals isn't required".

We all live in a world where everyone has different views/opinions of everyone else (just look at the number of wars/conflicts this has caused throughout history for proof), and one of the things that makes this world a better place, is attempting to see things from the other's perspective. I know you certainly don't like some of the views I have, and I accept that as you don't know the life history that I've gained whilst on this spaceship called Planet Earth. Likewise, I don't know your history/life experiences - yet I still attempt to "get along" with everyone, after all, we're all here for the "good of science".

I'm sure that your idea will be considered and put somewhere on the extremely long "to do" list that WCG have, although, due to the inadequacies of this Forum software, I certainly would be very surprised to see it implemented anytime soon (sorry). Personally, I would like to think that the limited resources WCG has, is invested in bringing new projects to the fold.

Re: Ignore list

... consider putting "ignore user list" feature for this forum ...

In the mean time, I think we will just have to implement the manual version of the "ignore user list" (AKA, don't feed the trolls biggrin).

Re: Ignore list

Hi all,

I am checking on the 'ignore' feature, but as was mentioned by gb009761, I do not think this forum software is capable of doing such a thing.

My advice, in the meantime, is to try and ignore (in real life) the comments of those who you find off-putting - or as it was so eloquently stated, 'don't feed the trolls' wink

Thank you for your patience, decorum, and support dear volunteers!

Re: Ignore list

"Thank you for your comments, which we shall give due consideration."

(Emphasis mine biggrin, this one reply at a member sprung to mind, so be warned if you get akin as feedback cool )

It is a Berkeley standard forum feature, the ignore function, with a link if you still want to see the content [the resistance is futile factor].

Another 'pretty please', is to -Not- quote those undesirable posts. I have a short suppress list, courtesy of a few Firefox extensions and some nifty 'fold-it' code [I''m not the coder, so I wont share it]. If you quote, we still get to see the ignore listed content, and really if you write a reply immediately below, why quote anyway. Include the link if you have to [right bottom of all posts], so being 'exposed' becomes optional ;?

Re: Ignore list

An ignore feature is really only useful when you have someone spamming the forum. IOW, they post so often that their posts take up too much space in any given thread. In such cases, being able to put someone on ignore is very useful.

But honestly, in situations like that, what you really need is good moderation. And since we don't actually have moderators here, that isn't going to happen.

Trying to retrofit new features on this software is really pointless so the best thing to do is just deal with it until IBM eventually decides to make an investment in either upgrading the software or replacing it with something serviceable.

Compared to some of the forums I've been on, we don't really have much of a problem here.
