Re: Uncovering Genome Mysteries project update - October 2015

blushing Missed this entirely in my equations, that the 20M also needed to be run against the original 200M or differently the original 200M against the new 20M, and Office 2016 now also having 'Ink', all can be done that Albert did ;))). OK, so I've plugged the new end number 28679 batches in and get to 66,667% with 19109. At the same lower pace as before with 342 days taken to do first 2/3rd, that's 170 days odd to get to the next last result.

Many thx and forward on (The betas, 17, ran fine on my Win/Lnx devices).

if u r lead by d data here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=ugm1

than 15214y of data 4 some 19109 batches...
getting some 44,5y per day of CPU power, with only 3 projects run (FA@h, MCM & CEP2)...
have to get to 28679 batch...
calculates about 224d to completion...
even with speed up of computers included, it's still 190d...by my calculation!

EDIT: so the ECD would around 26th Apr!

BUT, today we have 4 projects run (FAHB, OET, CEP2 & MCM)...
& we don't know how much "resource share" will UGM get on server?!
so I'd easily say it's 200+d to ECD...might be around 250d?!

1 thing is 4 sure: we'll all C it end!
cool

latest batch received is 19514 on 2nd Nov...

so in 18d time we all crunched about 405 batches...
to 28679 batches we have 9165 to go...
with this (slow) tempo we have about 407d to completion!?!

so ECD is prolonged to 13th Dec 2016!!!

probably some shortage of data & low priority on WCG got this project on a slow pace!
cool

so latest batch received is 20.047 on 18th Nov...

so in 16d time we all crunched another 533 batches...
to 28.679 batches we have 8629 to crunch...
back speeding up with a tempo...259d to completion!

so ECD is back down to 3rd Aug!

EDIT:
comment to different times - now that we have started FAHB project, which will took so much time to complete...but also allocates another science to the WCG...we're still in an early phase...so expected ECD is "information only", not to be taken for granted (as we can see)...maybe next ECD should be made around Christmas time, to have a 30d average, which might give us a better estimate!
also, keep in mind that we might "soon" have another science project on our hands to compete in & crunch...read here:
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=455
so, keep crunching, but expect the ECD to be between Spring & Fall!

Question: How long are work units on this project?

@ Horse39 WUs take 3 to 4 hours on my old desktop system and the tasks checkpoint frequently.
The size of uploads and downloads may be a problem if you have wireless internet — can be tens of megabytes per WU for just a few hours crunching..

Re: Uncovering Genome Mysteries project update - October 2015

I mean in time to crunch.

You can find current and longer term run-times per-project on the various charts that are posted in the Start-Here forum or the 'Performance chart' threads in each project forum. The WCG project stats on the 'Community' pages only give the total project average... if the science been running 1 year, you get the 1 year average, whilst run-times do vary, i.e. it is 5 hours today, could be 4 hours tomorrow, current mean around 3.25 hours. http://bit.ly/WCGUGM

Re: Uncovering Genome Mysteries project update - October 2015

I'm wondering why the progress here is still at 47%, when 2 months ago after restarting work it was expected to be at ~67%. Has new work been added since then ?
