Dave, if you're looking for a pretty basic cell phone, go check what Wal-Mart has. The whole cell phone/service market is changing big time so the last thing you want to do is get stuck in any kind of contract. Even Verizon is dropping that. You'll probably pay more for the cell phone since the service provider won't be subsidizing it thru a 2 year contract now. I've also seen word of offers that include free phone upgrades once a year from some places. I prefer to avoid Wal-Mart normally but it seems they have some decent offers for no-contract fairly basic service and phones.

I also avoid WalMart (except for investing) and my go to store is normally Costco. There is an AT&T outlet here near Target as well as a BestBuy.

Can someone describe what's involved to get BOINC running on a Linux box (Ubuntu I think). I'm used to the Windows side. I assume you have a GUI interface on Linux as well so managing it via BOINCManager will be the same. That being the case, I presume it's just a matter of downloading the Linux version of BOINC and installing it (via a command or does the exe self-install there too?).

f your're running Ubuntu:

1. open the Ubuntu Software Center
2. type boinc (lower case) in the search box (upper right corner) and hit enter
3. Select "Metapackage for the BOINC client and the Manager" in the list that comes up
4. click Install

That won't pull the WCG branded version but it will install everything you need and BOINC will be started when you boot the machine and it works just fine on WCG.

The Manager is a GUI and looks/works the same as in Windows. To add a "short cut" to it
1. click on the "Search your computer and online sources" icon.
2. type in boinc and his enter.
3. drag the BOINC icon to the launcher
