Back in the P4 days I had HT working. So it was not exactly "new" in 2009 when Intel implemented in in that chip.
What does top show as utilization when BOINC is running on all 8 cores? |

If you are referring to the TOP command then it shows 8 boinc processes going at around 100% and a miniscule amount of ram being used out of the 16 gigs available.

Tried several more things and nothing worked until I reformatted the machine with a 64-bit version of linux. Then it saw and is currently running on all threads.
