An alert, mostly for server administrators and an interesting read item at the same time, how the internet's NTP time keeping is being ported to become NTPsec, hardened security after a past week attack on the core system of the internet. :http://www.zdnet.com/article/secure-ntp-goes-beta/

The link address says it all: http://betanews.com/2015/12/04/hackers-hide-m...rget-media-organizations/

More an FYI than anything, lest you're in the limited target area.

Definitely one to keep an eye on if you're a Linux user, though it looks like it might be a while before the patch lands.

Re: Security advisories thread: Those that may interest you.

Oh dear, still on v9.2 and the fixed version being 16.00. Avast is supposed to keep [non-MS] software fresh, but this one has not been for a very long time.

Get it here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Thx for this alert.

Re: Security advisories thread: Those that may interest you.

Mozilla announced Firefox 47 [had it for days already], with 13 security advisories, several critical.

http://www.eweek.com/security/firefox-47-debu...-security-advisories.html

A great piece in this release is the option to extradite hi-risk Adobe Flash as now FF supports playing YouTube with html5, and so I did. Works great and the browser now feels more responsive at that.

Note also the about:performance function (type in address bar). This will analyze all the add-ins and open web pages / tabs.

This Android malware can secretly root your phone and install programs
http://www.csoonline.com/article/3086943/mobi...and-install-programs.html
Android users beware: a new type of malware has been found in legitimate-looking apps that can root your phone and secretly install unwanted programs. The Godless malware targets devices running Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and earlier and has mainly hit India and other parts of southeast Asia, Trend Micro says.

So, is it safe [if you have Marshmallow 6.0 and up]? It's suggested so.
