WCG doesn't do or start any research on its own, it just provides the resources to existing research teams. If you want to see a particular cause represented here, you should find an organization engaged in that research and encourage them to submit a proposal to WCG.
----------------------------------------Although I know there is some sort of review process done by WCG management, it's all done behind closed doors. i imagine that they select projects that have the correct infrastructure to support grid computing, but it would be interesting to hear more about the process and what projects are rejected and for what reason(s). If that's the kind of decisions you're interested in participating in, I would be all for some community involvement in that process--whether it be a general vote, or specific individuals invited to participate in the process. I would hope that WCG is receptive to all projects that meet the requirements for inclusion, as I would prefer that any project that could benefit from inclusion here would be included. This, instead of "choosing" one project over another. |

As far as I know since I have joined this project WCG's problem has never been to select or eliminate a candidate project against another. WCG's main problem is to receive enough eligible submissions, and next, that research teams are able to proceed effectively till a successful launch.

In other words...u have a lot of job to do, crunch! we'll probably have one more project by the end of the y...so don't worry! ;) You have not one whit of information to suggest a new project is under development for imminent release.u said that last year, or someone did...& we got OET by the end of the y... |

You have not one whit of information to suggest a new project is under development for imminent release. The funny part of this is neither do you ! I would hope that WCG is receptive to all projects that meet the requirements for inclusion, as I would prefer that any project that could benefit from inclusion here would be included. This, instead of "choosing" one project over another. Hope no more because it is obvious that the WCG is receptive to ALL projects that can be crunched under the technical, administrative and legal requirements that are needed. You just have to look at the LONG list of projects that have passed through WCG (see the list of Completed Research in the forum). There have been as few as 1 and as many as Conclusion... keep crunching !!! Doubly funny is, some *read* the forums and know of at least one being under development, even Prof. Olson makes mention of this in his latest post.
So the question is, who are the witless ;P (Note spelling sans 'h' :0)) cjslman. the top concurrent projects or phases there-off were 12, yes that much. |

SekeRob,
----------------------------------------Could you post a link to that project under development "announcement"? I seem to remember reading something about that. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Yes, I seem to remember, very vaguely, about another project brewing in the background, but I try to not trust my memory that much... so much going on, it's easy to get confused on who's on first cjslman. the top concurrent projects or phases there-off were 12, yes that much. You see ???!!! There I go trusting my memory again !!! Damn it, now I'm going to have a doubt complex for the rest of the weekend !!! CJSL Crunching for a better world... |

Hi everyone, rest assured that we do have more research projects (note plural ) in the pipeline. It's always been our policy not to talk about these until they're in the late testing phases (i.e. beta testing), at the earliest.
To chime in on a few other points made in this thread: - Project timeline and completion estimates: We estimate a project's end date depending on a number of criteria including the speed at which our volunteers are completing work and the number of work units and batches the researchers have told us to expect, for that project. Both of those factors change from time to time, which is why you'll see end dates shift every now and then. We typically confirm that a project is about to end about a month before. - Research proposals: we are always open and interested in more research ideas and proposals from scientists that meet our requirements (work technically feasible on the grid, research that benefits humanity, public/non-profit research organization, willingness to make data publicly available, etc). For more details: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/viewSubmitAProposal.do Thanks! |
