Retire inactive team members

I think it would be appropriate to retire team members that are inactive and have not returned a task in the last 8,760 hours.
That is one year.
If they decide to return later they can rejoin and pick up where they left off.
With the present system they can be inactive for years of non participation and it does not show on the team page.

Re: Retire inactive team members

It would be interesting to remove volunteers at any moment.
A year of inactivity, it's already too long for my taste thinking
It would also be good for the captains to have the possibility to open and close access to their team at will.
As on the other BOINC projects platforms. Of course, WCG/IBM is a separate platform.

Re: Retire inactive team members

I've been 30 days inactive not realising that WGC doesn't support Power PC's (just been given one), old PC too slow (2004). I found out when I got a message from them asking where am I? I checked my event log and it said there was no work available. Looks like I'm out then >:(

Re: Retire inactive team members

In a perfect world, a captain can mail team members to get them back crunching [maybe that shcould be the default when signing up]. Booting team members off because they're on hiatus... not too sure.

As for PowerPC, but for the few projects, they are so rare these days, it's very hard to find a verifying wingman for these. This means if one PowerPC returns a result, there has to be a second [impartial], to validate the computing work of the first, within 7-10 days. This not being the case forced WCG to discontinue [building and supporting] an application for this platform. Not sure which the last one was, [Old] AutoDock FA@H or HPF2 of HCC which ran on these... years and years ago.

Been suggested numerous times and in the WCG response to the 2013Member Survey it was noted:
Leverage teams more effectively
Teams can provide a valuable sense of community and inclusion, but many members feel that teams are not receiving enough attention and support. We hope to address this....

Sadly this hasn't been given sufficient priority to attract the allocation of scarce resources. It irks that resources could however be found for the ill-conceived and poorly implemented Recruit Badges which aren't even available for public display!

Re: Retire inactive team members

I don't know about forcing people out of a team, but it would be nice if the 'Team Member Details and Statistics' page indicated whether members were active or inactive.

Re: Retire inactive team members

I once thought we should be able to remove inactive members from a team. I was wrong. I've seen enough folks come back, some after long periods, even more than a year, to see this as a good idea. When an inactive member starts crunching again, their work counts towards your team with no action on your part. If they got dropped, they'd have to rejoin your team. With the way WCG is set up, it's just as likely they'd join another team and even more likely that they'd not bother with any team. What's least likely is them crunching again, quitting your team and joining another.

Re: Retire inactive team members

The team Captains on WCG should have so many features as the Founders on the other platforms "BOINC". The politic of crunch and activity of the volunteers are different for every team.

Re: Retire inactive team members

How about team rules for joining a team. Maybe require 1 unit crunched per month for those on a budget or bad connection. One year of inactivity should be the captains call to remove though.
