This started 4 days ago, my upload speed was 125-250KB/sec then it shot down to 1/2KB/sec and has remained unchanged since.
----------------------------------------Even a small 350KB result is taking 5-7 min to upload when it only use to take seconds. A speed test on my computer shows 15MBS down load and 5MBS upload. Everything else has no trouble on the net only up loading BOINC results. What do I do my event logs shows many times going between deciding if I have a bad net connection of if the connection is good but the server taking the result is down. The large part of a CEP1 work unit say 350-500MB can have a 6 hour upload when they may have lasted 15-30 seconds......Whats going on?? [Edit 3 times, last edit by TKH at Mar 30, 2015 1:40:02 PM] |

Siedentopf,
In Boinc Manager in the Activity tab, do you have "Network activity always available" selected? |

Post content of the global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml [though latter should not exist if having hit the clear button on the client pref screen].

These are the key lines of interest in the pref files
<max_bytes_sec_up>256000.000000</max_bytes_sec_up> <max_bytes_sec_down>256000.000000</max_bytes_sec_down> <daily_xfer_limit_mb>0.000000</daily_xfer_limit_mb> <daily_xfer_period_days>0</daily_xfer_period_days> If a budget is set on daily xfer, could imagine e.g. 1Kb per faction of day, BOINC would only let so much per time unit in or out. Seeing no complaints on downloads, which some tasks have quite sizable ones, most improbable it's this setting with a quirky bit. Run a tracert on WCGs www.IBM.com and www.wcgrid.com. Getting 68ms, last step akamai, the one before seabone.net, which is suspected to be the hop across the ocean. |

Siedentopf, In Boinc Manager in the Activity tab, do you have "Network activity always available" selected? It's set right else it wouldn't up load at all. |

Some crunchers use this to limit bandwidth usage. Also, have you hit the clear button on the client pref screen as suggested by SekeRob? |

5 quotes of support posts in this 4 days spanning event:
[Mar 24, 2015 11:54:56 AM] (Previous thread) "Try setting a limit on your network bandwidth usage in Device Profile and after an update unset it again? This way if a configuration bit is flipped in your configuration on the servers or the machine it should unset it." [Mar 24, 2015 6:35:26 PM] (Previous thread) "Local and web prefs can give conflicting feedback **, so it's a first step to hit the clear button in local prefs to ensure a single set is in effect, and same for all nodes linked to a particular device profile." [Mar 26, 2015 10:20:44 AM] (Referring to a previous post) "Post content of the global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml [though latter should not exist if having hit the clear button on the client pref screen]." [Mar 27, 2015 9:43:56 AM] "Not so. Some crunchers use this to limit bandwidth usage. Also, have you hit the clear button on the client pref screen as suggested by SekeRob?" [Mar 27, 2015 9:44:48 PM] "Had to look for it but the clear button worked thank you for pointing that out would of never seen it otherwise....." The clear button is prominently on all 4 local client preferences tabs aka computing preferences, right top. It goes with the text "Click Clear to restore web-based settings" [if the English language was chosen for BOINC]. A general request to all members: If seeking help and you do not read and act on volunteer support posts, do not ask for clarifying questions if you don't understand a proposed action, or provide the information requested for the diagnostics, then a problem fix becomes one of endurance, and more. In those cases best proceed directly to Contact Us. There the World Community Grid professionals answer all there is to know and do to fix a crunching problem, under the same confidentiality as those applicable to the firm's attorney-client privileges. This topic is [RESOLVED] |
