Those who have a Berkeley release will get a red line upgrade suggestion in their event log [It will never be automatic]. Those on the WCG release 7.2.47, code vetted by IBM and endorsed, are suggested to steer clear. No upgrade notice is supposed to be logged. Berkeley has a substantially different concept of 'stable' versus WCG, as we well experienced with 7.4.31 sending all new WCG members into the woods [unable to attach to WCG].

Notice from BOINC
----------------------------------------A new version of BOINC is available. (7.4.42) Download 3/27/2015 3:46:00 AM more... After receiving the above notice I upgraded a system that was running 7.4.36 to 7.4.42. and rebooted by PC only to find out 12 hours later that BOINC did not autostart. I know & knew then that I should have waited for everything to come up but I was tired and went to bed. So much for 12 x 8 hours of lost run time. I been running 7.4.42 on a Ubuntu system since the 18th (March) without any problems. Have not rebooted that system yet. I'll keep an I on it when I do. ![]() |

I am running 7.2.42 on ChaletOS (Ubuntu 14.04 X64 based) and BOINC reports no new updates. Neither does the software updater.

Still, the number is .42 ;>)
The package maintainer for Linux Debian, LocutusOfBorg is usually right on top, so if you have his PPA added to the catalog you do get [by choice of course], the latest ported automatically. It's by choice [I do too], not recommended though unless you are hands-on and proficient in recovery. |

guys, why did upgrade above & beyond of the WCG specs?
----------------------------------------to be frank with you...if you run WCG spec BOINC, you can pretty much run all the projects - it's that stable! ;) |
