Re: Windows 10 login

Cummin-a-yeah-ha!... 325MB of accumulates and a longer installation wait and a boot to Linux to confirm if LAN would then perform properly... it did. Then booted again into W10 and the network is as spiffy as ever... Vista 10, most definitely not ready for prime time.

Dug out the Corsair Vogayer 64GB USB 3.0 and turned that into the backup/performance booster drive, so now we'll let it run a earth revolution to see how many FAHV it can / will chew.

Hasta la pasta.

Re: Windows 10 login

Got my first client who updated a client to W10. They use a mixed Windows/Linux server network with 11 printers. W10 renamed the shared printer and Linux/Samba won't print (go figure). We'll see what other gremlins will be uncovered.

Re: Windows 10 login

Update... got to 98.1% crunching efficiency if truly left alone, but if setting things up for 'use', you'll discover things are not as top. E.g. today found a process called WWAHost.exe. It's got something to do with binding apps and Java. I know I ticked something related to java yesterday, but for the love of it, can't find it again nor remember where I did this. It's permanently eating 5% of one core and flip flopping around the processors, so you don't really notice... 1.25% per core essentially. Froze it in the TM and is surely to resume on a boot, but that's a later problem. 98.1 +1.25 makes 99%+ BOINCing possible.

Re: Windows 10 login

Paul Thurrott confirmed the 'Service Release 1" was 325MB, and things are still running, network still zipping, but not 99% crunching efficiency, still high 97 or low 98. The full detail of this SR1 is in this MS document: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3081424 including that WWAHost.exe that is causing 1 thread 5% CPU eating. Still not recome to me where I ticked that box. raised eyebrow

Re: Windows 10 login

Had this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193196, forced to go to Program defaults to set FF as prime browser [Edge was being opened, which has the, IMO, awful Bing SE forced upon us with a convoluted way to switch SE, rather than having on the fly choice as FF has]. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1193196. So now it's v40.0.2

Re: Windows 10 login

one Win10 wasn't turned on 4 a while (1 month), 'cause of renovating my room...so when I turned it on, some processes heated the CPU up to 100°C (which is his Tjunc on dual-core)...after an 1h the process subsided...

Not sure if the Win10 had any difference to Win7, Win8/8.1 or WinXP + Defender... :/

Re: Windows 10 login

This may come in handy when upgrading and things go vexing: How to remove old unused device drivers in windows.

Had this WIFI/Bridging issue and large percentage of CPU time being eaten by WmiPrvSEexe network managing process. Old wifi 801.11N broke, new one 801.11AC inserted, but the old [invisible] was still funking in. This step-by-step makes the hidden stuff in the device manager visible. No instructions found for W10, but W7/8 are as good as far as I experience, it's just a new GUI over the same old, same old.

More disturbingly with all this in-fighting was, that the System Idle Process had too accumulated the necessary hours. Now 4 hours after boot still 7:32 minutes, but it's now the 8 BOINC jobs sit at top of the sorted TM view with a truly steady 12%, occasionally 13 [times 8 is practically getting near all]. Now even TaskMgr.exe itself is needing hardly any to keep the view sorted.

Handle with care: Grayed Icons does not necessarily mean it's okay to delete/uninstall. Confirm and reconfirm you've got the right one to uninstall.

edit: Verified, the activation to viw hidden devices/drivers is exactly same as with W7/W8.

Re: Windows 10 login

There I thought to have installed the 325MB cumulative update KB3081436 and the update history says it was on 11/08/2015, yet here we are, another sizable 'cumulative update' KB3081438, [ 2 KB releases higher].

Maybe they just lost track of what is and what isn't on the machine, so they dump the whole swat again.

BTW, discovered there's also a 'metered' network option in W8. Selected it, just in case they [MS] are using this recent not as top performing device too to distro their 2.7Gig W10.

Edit: This Service Pack [the size makes it such ;], definitely resolved more LAN issues [and the ticking of the 'metered', on the device that was acting as bridge to W10.]

Re: Windows 10 login

Playing with themes hit the "get more from the internet..." button. and got
Themes

Windows themes work only in Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1. If your PC runs Windows XP or Windows Vista, you can still choose from hundreds of desktop backgrounds. Or move up to the best of Windows and personalize your PC in new ways.
Yes, MS is W10 ready laughing
