Could the recruitment link set the default team for the new recruit too?
I have an e-mail footer with a recruitment message that includes the standard link that the "my contribution" page builds for me. A while ago I noticed that there's also a parameter for your team which is on the link built for you on the "my team" page. So I modified the link in my e-mail footer to include BOTH parameters as follows: worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/viewRegister.do?recruiterId=1604&teamID=L721SPD4BN1 Someone finally used the link the other day (hooray!) but it seems they did not automatically join my team and I had to send them another link to do that. Did one of us do something wrong or does the software not cope with both parameters at the same time? If it doesn't, would it be an easy change? It seems to me that it would be an additional incentive to garner recruits if they automatically joined your team as well as you being credited for them. Indeed, for those who are members of a team it would be good to see the team parameter added to the suggested link in the "my contribution" page, just as it would be good to have the recruiterId parameter added to the link in the "my team" page so that you would be credited for new recruits. I rather think this is just an oversight and a fairly simple change, but life isn't always that simple ... |

The person I signed up managed to get one of their acquaintances to sign up too but, surprise surprise, no recruitment badge for them. Yet another inconsistency. If you get the system to send the e-mail the embedded link doesn't have the appropriate parameter. It has utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, but it doesn't have recruiterId (or teamID). You're not going to tell me this information isn't known by (or easily accessible to) the software that sends the e-mails, 'cos it sure knows the user's name!
Similarly, now that we've decided we are going to have this recruitment system, it seems ludicrous not to show the badges on the forum with all the project badges. Does WCG want a little friendly rivalry or does it have enough volunteers already? |

Thanks, Rob. I was aware of Erika's post and was just adding some weight to the request. But my points regarding URL parameter processing and setting have not been addressed. This whole recruitment plan went off half-baked and inconsistent. I've no doubt it was due to lack of funding and I've no doubt that it won't get fixed because they know that once people are on-board they are unlikely to leave just because of chaotic support systems -- they don't affect the science.
But one can hope. |
