![]() Welcome to the World Community Grid team thread for MyOnlineTeam! We would love to have you as a member! What are we? MyOnlineTeam is a global group of people who believe that individuals can make a real difference in the world. Our main focus is on distributed computing where we use the idle computing power of our PCs to process data for a number of research projects. We use the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) software to do this. This is a safe and reliable way to make a difference in the world. Most people do well to utilize more than five percent of the computing power of their PCs. With BOINC, the other ninety-five percent that is "going to waste" gets used without impacting your normal computer use. In return, you will help with efforts to find new medicines, treatments and cures for diseases like cancer, HIV, malaria and muscular dystrophy, expand our understanding of our environment and climate, help make new discoveries about our universe, and much more, all while getting to know folks from all over the world, from different cultures and backgrounds and a wide variety of viewpoints. MyOnlineTeam is also involved in global micro-finance thru Kiva.org. Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. The best part of all of this is that you choose how much you want to get involved. You can get involved in any one of the multiple projects in which we participate when you want as much as you want. Who are we? Our members are from all over the world and come from diverse backgrounds. With MyOnlineTeam, you will find you have friends from all over the world. We know what it is like to lose a loved one to disease. We understand what it is like to look up at the sky and ponder the great questions facing mankind. We all feel the desire to make a difference. We will do our best to ensure that you are glad you found us! Being a global group and a diverse one at that, you will find that each of us can have very different views. Because we are so different, you will find that we are all about respect, tolerance and diversity. We know that while we are so different, we are very much the same - we are here to make a difference and it is that work that truly matters. Our history: MyOnlineTeam was founded on November 16th, 2004 when the World Community Grid project first launched. We have been growing ever since. While the World Community Grid is our birthplace and remains our primary home and project, we have expanded into other projects in line with our overall mission. If you want to crunch only one project, such as WCG, or multiple projects, we're a team where you can do both, all with the same team. Where to begin: Since you are reading this, you have most likely already created an account here at the World Community Grid and downloaded the BOINC program. If not, just click on the Home link above. To see who all of us are and to join MyOnlineTeam here at WCG, just click here: JOIN MyOnlineTeam! To participate with us in our other projects, simply go to the BOINC program and click on Tools - Attach to project. When you attach to a project for the first time, you will also create an account there. We recommend that you use the same username and e-mail address that you did here at World Community Grid. To attach to a project, enter the correspoding URL for it from the list below in field provided for that. Project: URL: More information about each of these projects can also be found at the above URLs. Once you have attached to a project, be sure to go to it's URL above and join MyOnlineTeam at that project as well. To participate with us at Kiva, go to http://www.kiva.org and register. Once you have registered, click on the Community link, enter MyOnlineTeam in the Search box, and click on our name in the results. Then simply click on the Join Now button. Now that you have gotten started, do not stop there. Don't hesitate to post here whether it may be a question you have, help for a problem, or to say hi and get to know us. We really do want to hear from you!! We are currently building a new team website at MyOnlineTeam.org Until we progress further along with that, you can follow these links in the meantime to see our HALL OF FAME banners for use in your forum signature here: Hall Of Fame Runtime Banners - Part 1 Hall Of Fame Runtime Banners - Part 2 Hall Of Fame Results Banners Hall Of Fame Points Banners We have pictures and "smilies" you can use in your posts here or in your forum signature: Pictures Smilies - Part 1 Smilies - Part 2 Smilies - Part 3 Smilies - Part 4 Smilies - Part 5 Smilies - Part 6 Smilies - Part 7 Smilies - Part 8 Smilies - Part 9 Smilies - Part 10 We have a limited number of country banners available. We also have country flags available too. Just ask here and we'll give you a link to use for what you want. We also encourage you to join in the discussions and post here! The Fine Print/Disclaimers/Et cetera: We welcome you to our team thread. We encourage respectful postings here from all our fellow WCG crunchers, including those on other teams or not on a team. We simply ask that you follow the rules for WCG forum posts. There are no topics that are we do not allow here, providing they comply with WCG forum rules and do not distract from the primary purpose of this thread. The primary purpose of this thread is to recruit new members, enable communications with and among current MyOnlineTeam members, and engage in open, free and respectful communications with WCG community members. While we welcome and strive for open and honest communication, we cannot tolerate inappropriate comments regarding other WCG members or their opinions. Any postings by any WCG member on our thread is subject to our and WCG administrator review, and we reserve the right to report inappropriate comment(s) to the WCG administrators for appropriate action, if any. Please do not quote inappropriate comments as your posting will be deemed inappropriate and action may taken against you for disseminating such comment(s). You are free to report any offensive comments to the WCG administrators or refer your opinion to the teamâs captain to address any egregious posting(s) or topics. Any other action on your part is not tolerated or acceptable. Team members whose postings repeatedly do not comply with WCG or MyOnlineTeam "MOT" standards are subject to expulsion by the teamâs captain. As a reminder, while we celebrate diversity, we are united and of one voice to do our part in the fight against disease, in working together for the benefit of our fellow humans. Thanks for visiting our team thread! |

As we begin our new team thread, we offer the following as guidelines to assist you in ensuring that your posts in our thread are not problematic:
----------------------------------------1) Most importantly, be familiar with Forum Policy for Members. These are WCG's forum rules. 2) Keep topics unrelated to the thread's primary purpose brief to avoid becoming a distraction. Extended discussion can be taken off-line or moved to the Chat forum. 3) If a specific post elicits a strong emotional reaction, wait before posting a response. A quick response is likely to be problematic. 4) Remember that we are a global team and those posting here are not necessarily posting in their first language. Give folks the benefit of the doubt. 5) Be aware that your posts are limited to the written word. The reader has no knowledge of your frame of mind, facial expressions or tone of voice. With just your words to go on, it is much easier for them to be misunderstood or misinterpreted by the reader. 6) You are posting in a public venue. If there is a problem with your post and you are asked to modify or remove it, please do so. It is not an accusation regarding your intent. 7) If the team captain requests that a topic of discussion end or be moved, please comply. 8) Keep the global nature of our team in minds when posting. Keep it relevant to all of our team, not just those in one part of the world. We are here for the same purpose. Relax and enjoy our thread. |

Okay, this should pretty well summarize things:
----------------------------------------2007 Total points returned this period: 51,339,822 Active members returning points this period: 145 Average points per member active this period: 354,067.73793 2008 Total points returned this period: 80,794,234 Active members returning points this period: 104 Average points per member active this period: 776,867.63462 2009 Total points returned this period: 127,729,315 Active members returning points this period: 81 Average points per member active this period: 1,576,905.12 2010 Total points returned this period: 189,571,487 Active members returning points this period: 68 Average points per member active this period: 2,787,815.99 2011 Total points returned this period: 344,568,637 Active members returning points this period: 69 Average points per member active this period: 4,993,748.36 2012 Total points returned this period: 507,680,415 Active members returning points this period: 56 Average points per member active this period: 9,065,721.7 2013 Total points returned this period: 532,246,131 Active members returning points this period: 50 Average points per member active this period: 10,644,922.6 2014 Total points returned this period: 405,470,087 Active members returning points this period: 46 Average points per member active this period: 8,814,567.1087 As you can see, we have a great track record. Again, the main area of concern is the number of active members. We've been doing more with less year after year. That speaks volumes to the commitment of each and every one of you. This year, for the first time, we did not beat our points production for the prior year. I think the shift from PCs to tablets and smartphones is hurting crunching all over. Even with two, three of four devices, you're not going to replace the output of a decent desktop. There has to be a good number of folks out there who still have PCs sitting around doing next to nothing. I think what we need to focus on this year is recruiting. Yes, that's notoriously difficult given my own experience. Still, it can be done. What I'd like each of us to commit to is to simply recruit ONE new member in 2015. If we gain even 10-12 new active members all year, the impact will be significant. With so many folks dealing with and surviving cancer, WCG offers an easy and great way to do something, to "fight back" with the projects we have. Over the course of the year, an opportunity will present itself. Let's seize that opportunity when it comes! If we can do this, the points will come. Let's keep our team thread active as well as it is also a great way to attract new crunchers at WCG. I'd like each of us to commit to posting on some regular basis whether it's once a week, once a month or whatever. Let me finish by offering my personal thanks to each of you for what you've done. I know that's not a reason any of you crunch here but know that I do appreciate the efforts of each of you. When you realize that we're doing all we do with just 25-30 folks each day, that's just incredible! Let's make 2015 our best year ever! |

Happy New Year everyone!
Congrats to all on their achievements for 2014! Now onto the new year. As of next week I'll be adding an iPhone to my group of crunching tools. Keith thanks for the recruiting idea. I'm on Facebook and what a great way to maybe have a few people join WCG and MyOnlineTeam. |

Merry Christmas all from France! Good to hear from you Pierre! I agree. 2015 is a fresh year with plenty of hope! May it be a GREAT year!I hope the new year will be beautifull! Maybe some new project or some new workunit to share with WCG! :) I hope that the OET project gets some real work in 2015...say in the next month or two. No speaking since a long time on the forum but continuing crunching! :) I've some problem with Boinc on my Laptop, he is running when I'm on battery (the config is OK, with "running on battery" unchecked), and the second problem is I don't received OET tasks on my 2 computers.. (Laptop and dedicated server), unless I've check the project on the website.. (only 1 task received during last month... I will try to solve these problems and repair my second dedicated server (old HP proliant Gen2 but that will be dedicated to WCG Crunching :) ) when I will have some time. ![]() |
