angry problems crunching on Server 2008

I have an 8 core machine I was running Server 2003 on without issue. I recently updated to Server 2008, now it will only process Clean Energy wu's (when it actually gets one) and goes straight to Computation Error on anything else. angry So far I have yet to see it process more than 3 wu's at a time even though it is set to use 100% of processors and ram.
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Could you post the startup messages ?
Have you checked if your anti-virus is killing the jobs ?

Re: problems crunching on Server 2008

No start up messages I've seen and other than running on S 2008, this machine is identical to 16 other machines I have running Windows 7. In fact I had 7 on this machine before I installed Server 2008 and it ran without issue. I've tried playing with the firewall and have yet to install anti-virus so that's definitely not the issue.

I am talking about the startup messages when BOINC starts. If you are able to successfully download and process CEP2 WU's, there will be some messages from BOINC which should detail some of the startup parameters.

Re: problems crunching on Server 2008

I'll take a look. Is there a log I can view after it's up and running that I can copy and paste from?

Look under the "messages" tab on the advanced view.

Re: problems crunching on Server 2008

651 years crunched at wcg, impressive.

The cep2 science is 32 bit and all others would be send in 64 bit, if the os identifies itself as 64 bits. The event/message log would tell us at start all the necessary technical details and tell on how the agent reports the task fails, plus posting a copy of an error log from the result status pages would facilitate some initial diagnosis. This being server 2008, not the desktop aimed windows 7, might be a case of some libraries/dlls missing, needed for computing.

Re: problems crunching on Server 2008

Okay, I think I found what you're asking for. Also, it finally received some Ebola wu's and is processing them, but that's the only other one it will process.

I see a lot of entries that say,
[error] Process creation failed:(unknown error) - error code 216(0xd8)

I think lavaflow is correct based on the error you show. You are missing some libraries. This may help:See here.

Re: problems crunching on Server 2008

Thanks, I'll check it out. I certainly hope it's not a 2008 issue as I plan to upgrade to a larger server within the next 2 years.
