No idea if this is a good idea or not: How about letting the people who processed a useful unit know (account only: not publicly) that their computation served a critical calculation. "You crunched the winning number" etc...
Its not about pride by points for sure, but maybe a little "i made a difference" zeal would help fuel the passion flames of participation. Thanks |

It's a good idea, although what would the criteria be for 'it being a useful unit'?, as each and every unit crunched is (in my eyes) a useful unit crunched - due to it either eliminating a possibility or providing the project scientists with some evidence that it's worth pursuing (through all the various lab tests etc.), the unit that I've crunched.
----------------------------------------Science, unfortunately, is a lot of weeding out the 'bad' in order to find the very small percentage of the 'good'. |

Wcg most probably could not even if they wanted to. A number of times we've heard from technicians that they can't trace a 'faulty' result once it has moved beyond the assimilator. To me this indicates neither the reverse is possible, what host a specific result came from.

You mean something like SETI@home can in certificate wirte how many PEAKs have you found? Doesn't mather if the PEAK is true or false signal...only that you found it!
----------------------------------------It could be done with HITs on the molecules...but you will never know how will the second stage refine the search...'cause your result might be "false positive"! but, a nice idea...though! ;) |
