More localized translation languages

Hi all,

i believe WCG could benefit greatly from having more translation languages of the website. Because at least here in Sweden, websites written in Swedish are much more easily consumed by the average person and automatically is assumed to be more reliable information-wise, more trustworthy. That is my observation at least.

Also, let's take my parents as an example. Middle-aged people who are not very comfortable with English at all and thankfully I am around to be able to convince them into why they also should contribute their spare CPU-time to WCG, but this situation cannot be assumed or relied upon on a more macroscopical level. However, if WCG main site, research and news/project updates would also be translated (by human) into Swedish in this case, it would have been a completely different thing to them.

Yes, it requires quite the effort to keep it all updated and working, but I am convinced the results would be worth it!

I could help with translation from English to Swedish and perhaps some other language(s) as well if needed and under the right circumstances. And I am sure many more would be able to contribute. My opinion is that smaller countries with a high population baseline of Internet-awareness would be preferred as first priority for translation. That includes Scandinavia and most central European countries.

Am I on to something or on thin ice? :)

Re: More localized translation languages

Hi,

Sorry for opening this old topic, I was asking me the same question about translations on the website, I think that would be very benefit to attract people through a better and faster comprehension of the projects purpose.

I am french, i am not the best to translate french to english, but I would be very glad to submit some serious translations from english to french, it is easier in that way.

If someone passing by here could give us some informations about that, thank you !

Re: More localized translation languages

There's Wikis for this, to place volunteer translations [several exist]. It becomes unmanageable, it already is, considering the result statuses are not up-to-date for the languages supported. Someone has to read it and make sure it is exactly representing the English original, and no linguistic boo boo and worse is being inserted... a costly affair.
