Re: New BETA test - Sept 23, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Would not be surprised if the m in ugm would stand for mapping again.

Thanks for your explanation it does make sense. The M could also stand for Medicine. We will have to wait and see. If you want the answer you can dig around in previous New Beta test threads or the new project in the pipeline thread or words to that effect

3 on an i5-3230M @ 2.6GHz. 2 pending and 1 running at 30% after 1:45:00. Estimate is 5 hours for the pending task, but if the current rate of progress is maintained it looks like the running one will take around 6 hours.
Completed with 5:54:18 CPU time and 6:06:22 elapsed time.
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0158_ 0-- 719 Pending Validation 23/09/14 21:37:34 24/09/14 06:06:53 3.09 86.3 / 0.0
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0158_ 1-- 719 Pending Validation 23/09/14 21:37:33 24/09/14 08:02:57 5.91 146.1 / 0.0

1 running on a C2Q Q6600 @ 2.4GHz, 40% after 1:35:00, so it looks likely to take around 4 hours.
Completed with 3:10:52 CPU time and 3:25:40 elapsed time.
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0930_ 1-- 719 Pending Validation 23/09/14 21:39:04 24/09/14 08:02:54 3.18 66.9 / 0.0
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0930_ 0-- 719 Pending Validation 23/09/14 21:39:02 24/09/14 05:28:28 2.44 106.0 / 0.0

For both tasks the last progress update in the result log is:
17500 query sequences compared.

Re: New BETA test - Sept 23, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

The test (so far) went up-and-down for me:

1. all 013's proceeded OK on both i7-3770 Win7-SP1 64 and i5-2500S Mac OS X 10.9.5
2. 5 014's errored out on my Win rig with "Maximum elapsed time exceeded" - what is strange, because elapsed time of all of them was 2.96 - 2.97 hours confused
2.a. 3 of them were returned by wingmen with CPU times: 2.72, 3.22 and 4.22 hours nerd

Cheers peace

Re: New BETA test - Sept 23, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I have 3 14 tasks running very well. Did anyone else notice the large file download size on Windows? The task text files were between 4 and 7 meg I remember correctly. Will this be normal when the project hits prime time? It will be interesting to see what upload sizes will be like.

Sure did. My largest downloaded file was beta19.ugm1_ugm1_00014_a_0002.txt (8.26MB, zipped down with a compression ratio of 43% to 4.68MB). The input files used for the 2 pending tasks on my i5 are that file plus one other (*_b_0047.txt is 7.48MB and *_b_0048.txt is 7.81MB with similar zip compression ratios of 41% and 43%).

7zip gives even better compression:

  • a_0002 - 59% (3.38MB)
  • b_0047 - 47% (3.99MB)
  • b_0048 - 52% (3.71MB)
Input files are deleted when the last task using them is reported.

KWSN - A Shrubbery,

I'm not sure what happened or why your scheduler request failed. Have you continued seeing it? I wonder if it was just a one off case.

On a side note, we are seeing good results for this beta so far. The validator and assimilator are turned off at the moment. I will enable them tomorrow morning if things continue to look promising.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Kept getting the same message over and over until it had two results to report then they went right through. One time event I guess.

As for the rest of the beta, 147 results, three still processing, all other pending validation.

Re: New BETA test - Sept 23, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I actually got about 20 errors, all on the same machine, not sure what that means. Several other betas for that machine were fine.

Here are a few of them:

BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 1231_ 0--
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0902_ 1--
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0912_ 1--
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0913_ 0--
BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 0892_ 1--

Re: New BETA test - Sept 23, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Strangely, 1156 has a wingman who completed successfully in longer runtime:

BETA_ ugm1_ ugm1_ 00014_ 1156_ 1-- 719 Pending Validation 23/09/14 22:22:52 24/09/14 04:06:59 5.55 148.4 / 0.0

Explain that one, please!

The wingman's machine has probably calculated/reported half of the fpops (machine speed) your machine did and therefore has twice the time to complete a task.
One could also say: your machine is claiming higher fpops than really can be done.

The real problem is that the rsc_fpops_bound is set from the server too low. Normally the setting is ten times the estimated time,
but maybe Keith set it shorter to avoid overlength running tasks.

Ok, so the problem is from the server learning. From the very short running batches that were being returned originally before i loaded in batch 14, it put the limit too low. I don't see this as being a problem in the future as it was mainly due to beta having so few work units in general.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

It's the bezerk cleanup mania of the latest clients once the last task completes of an app. Maybe though some counter measure was taken since, for not had cep2 for quite a while, but see the 2 big zips and the app in the wcg project folder.

I just started the validator for this beta. Members should start seeing results validating.
