Tony,
----------------------------------------thanks for the hint, the new content delivery looks rather scary at first glance, and may well be the root cause for my problems. I will try to investigate further. What I don't understand is that I had an ages-old BOINC client running under Windows XP for years here over the same proxy. Were old clients affected by this change, too, or is it just my old WinXP setup having been less tight?
You can't stop time by throwing away your clock.

Could be coincidence http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,37207 So happens, wcg changed the security on the 17th and has recompiled the science applications to match. May have affected proxy settings too? uplinger could want to chime in if you can't resolve. Till then you can set various http/proxy debug flags in the cc_config.xml to get more event log detail. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml

Jens,
Scary, maybe; altering a firewall config needs the right understanding, I admit. However, choosing the correct IP address range to allow through isn't a lengthy process - just follow the steps under "Updating firewall configuration" at the link I gave, identify the IP address you're connecting to, look up the range that it includes. The CDN was implemented in January this year, so was your WinXP client running ok after that date? I believe that all clients were affected. Does your new Win7 client have the same proxy configuration as the old XP one? |

Have a laptop that I use at work, it downloaded MCM fine but would not download FaaH or FAHV after IBM moved to the new Content Delivery. Wednesday night at 2300 UTC I started getting HTTP errors on MCM that I never used to get. Took laptop to another network outside the firewalls and proxys at work and it downloads ALL WUs just fine. Our network security guys will not open firewall or proxy ports for ranges of IP addresses. Now, I download several days of WUs when outside work and that gets me through the work day when the IP addresses are blocked.

Nope.... As stated, mine were HTTP errors not XML errors. Worked at 17:08 local time but not at 18:00 and has been that way ever since. I restarted outside the work network and everything is fine. Our firewalls and proxies don't like the content delivery network..
