Hello everyone!
----------------------------------------I've been looking a little bit and I don't seem to find anything about porting the computation to Intel powered Android devices. I have an ASUS tablet with a x86 Intel CPU in it and I would love to be able to make it work for WCG. Any idea if it's gonna be available or when? Thank you and have a nice day ![]() PS : I hope the question isn't answer anywhere else and that I have posted it at the rightful place. ;-) [Edit 1 times, last edit by stitch9108 at Sep 14, 2014 7:14:47 AM] |

Very likely the question to ask is what the market potential is. Zillion androids on arm and there's, thanks to the very poor stability a few thousand devices running boinc at wcg. A new beta underway, this may change. Whether there are android/intel projects already elsewhere you'd have to research. Seti seems to be one that has many platforms, but think that is because there's volunteers who also are allowed to port the application. |

try out this download site, there is a BOINC version for the Android with x86: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
----------------------------------------but I'm not sure if the WCG will send you ANY data for crunching? attach it and see...maybe it will see it as a linux x86 platform? ;) |

Last I knew, SETI was the only project with an x86 Android app. If you find another project let me know. Most new cell phones should be 64bit capable coming the holiday season according to projections. It would only be a matter of time for Google to finally release a true 64 bit OS. When that happens, I would like to see if that OS enjoys the same speedup that other Linux distros do here. If so, I think that will be a much more appealing OS platform in a VM environment for DC'ers. Especially since that is the only OS with auto update for BOINC.
----------------------------------------Edit: KLIK, you can just download it from the Google Play store. It will install the appropriate version. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Sep 14, 2014 2:42:31 PM] |

Bumping as I came here to ask the same question as Im thinking of getting an intel atom equipped Hudl 2 from Tesco (im in the UK) but being able to crunch for wcg is a deciding factor.
If i just go ahead and buy one anyway ill report back with what happens when i join the wcg in the android boinc app. |

Well I got my hudl 2 today and installed boinc, the only project to come up that i can attach to with my x86 cpu is the Collatz Conjecture, I did my 10mil point stint on that one with my gpu a while ago so wont be doing anything on my tablet for a while, I check in the future for something more humanitarian in the future.

J.B.Martin, I wasn't aware Collatz had an x86 Android app. I will have to check that out. Did you try getting SETI? They were the first to deliver one.

Hi, I had a wee go on it again, last night and setup my bam account to attach it to various projects that I have worked on before {except collatz i cant remember my login for it--and it was very late at night}
Nothing came after syncing with bam!, so I manually added a few projects like seti and einstein via the url like normal, neither of them gave me any tasks stating something along the lines of...no work for x86-android-linux-gnu in the event log...something like that, not necessarily in that order, but essentially they are saying that no tasks are available for my OS/hardware combination. When i get back to it I will go into my seti and other project setting and allow all kinds of work as i usually have them locked down to specific crunching tasks such as long/short wu's or gpu only stuff depending on which system I was doing the work on. I left running, online and on charge it since last night so perhaps the might have been some downtime or scheduler maintenance going on at the time as it was 0300 gmt(ish) nad i wasn't prepared to star looking through individual project notices. Ill update my findings when I have found out what they actually are at this point. cheers (also the hudl 2 is running 4.4.2) |

Make sure you are setting it to use the Default profile. Also, you may have to attach to SETI BETA to get the work.

Ah, thanks for the info, yeah the seti beta is a separate usergroup so i just joined via bam! and then attached via the direct url method and check it was default, all seems well so far except that it says it has no work for me, but being the beta account it may well not always have tasks ready in the feeder. I will leave boinc running and check it every so often to see if it gives me something, i only really bought the tablet to use up some loyalty card points (only cost me £10) and use as an e-reader/emulation device.
If anything comes my way i shall report back here :) I suppose its to be expected for a while that x86 android isnt going to be supported, its not really that common in devices yet,perhaps once (IF) a significant proportion of the mobile devices start running x86 code then it will be more worth dev time. If last years hudl tablet sales area anything to go by then there will be at least another 500k of them running in the uk at least. (its a cheap but decent tablet made by a supermarket chain here) |
