Re: minix neo X8-H

My Reverb phone I think only has one core but that shouldn't automatically make it unreliable. Obviously the problem here is with the application not the hardware if you need to be running this on multicore devices in order for this to work properly.

I guess I could always stop running faah on my phone like I did on all of my other rigs, but now that I know about this, it's kind of fun watching this train wreck.

Re: minix neo X8-H

I have 5 cores running the android app with no errors. ( 1 le pan tablet,1 Asus transformer tablet and 1 HTC my touch phone) I am wondering if the tablets run the app better than phones? The tablets are used extensively, while the phone is not. Not done the research;is there any to verify the difference?

I'm sure WCG could look for patterns if they wanted to but oh, wait . . . they don't seem to be especially interested in the problem. That's fine, neither am I. I didn't even know it was one until I read this thread and started following some of the links. But hey, the problem has only existed for about year so I'm sure they'll get right on it aaaannnyyy day now.

Re: minix neo X8-H

Considering you can take the same device to a half dozen other projects and have very little failure rate is a pretty good indicator the problem lies with the FAAH app itself. I have had several phones attached to many projects and the only two projects to have difficulties seems to be QCN and WCG/FAAH. QCN does depend on the device and compatibility. Here, I have had devices that ran solid until an app change. Then they had tons of errors. Two of my phones ran FAAH really well until the last app change. Now there are quite a few errors. If these devices used more power or cranked out more work, I would just remove them from WCG. However, since there is very little work being mangled by these devices. I leave them attached as a means of giving the scientists more device types to work with on fixing this issue. What I haven't done yet is test to see if I have any better luck running nativeBOINC rather than the official BOINC client for quite some time. Maybe it is time to fire that client back up.

Re: minix neo X8-H

I'm solely using nativeBoinc on my android devices. The reason is that I like to have remote access to them and also control them via boinctasks.

Re: minix neo X8-H

I'm sure this is a stupid question and off topic but could someone point me to a link that describes the difference between native boinc and whatever I downloaded from google play. Thanks.

Re: minix neo X8-H

I believe you can download NativeBOINC from Google Play now. So, not sure what you downloaded. Basically, you have two choices. 1. nativeBOINC which was not released by Berkeley and is based on the 7.0.36 and 2. BOINC which is now released by Berkeley and is based on their v7.3.12 (last I checked).

nativeBOINC allows a little more control than the BOINC did. However, there isn't a lot of advantages to it these days. 2 main advantages that I find handy is the ability to change the devices name and also capable of being installed on older versions of Android. (I have 2 or 3 devices running Android 2.2.2 that can't run Berkeley's version) There may be other benefits, but not many other major ones from what I can tell. However, it feel more like the desktop client than an Android app.
