Hi! I'm new to WCG. I set computing preferences to 100 GB of disk space and 100% of the processor. However, when I go to view "Disk" under Advanced View, it shows that BOINC is using only 275 MB despite having an extra 99 GB "free, available to BOINC."
How can I get the program to use all of the disk space that I give it? Sometimes I just leave my computer on to run the program and do nothing else. Thanks! |

The short answer is you can not force BOINC to use more disk space than is necessary. The amount of disk space you allocate is the upper limit on what you are willing to provide. BOINC will only use as much disk space as is necessary for it to get the WU done. As long as you provide an adequate amount, BOINC is happy.

The agent uses as much space as all the 'assigned' tasks require in buffer and for the running models of distributed computing. Distributed storage projects never became to exist, too many 'trustworthy' issues would be one of them. How many copies and backups does one need to be sure the data/result access is always incorruptibly available?

Thank you for your replies! I don't have very much experience working with computers. Is there a way to run more than 2 tasks at once to use more disk space?

Wormfarmer,
----------------------------------------Depending on the computer you own, it may be able to only run two tasks. You can run as many tasks as processor cores you have. The only way we would be able to know if your computer is using it's full potential is for you to go into the Event Log and copy the first 20 lines. To open this you should be able to press these keys "shift + ctrl + E" all at the same time. Thanks, -Uplinger [Edit: Fixed with proper shortcut. thanks Tony ] [Edit 1 times, last edit by uplinger at Jul 7, 2014 10:20:53 PM] |

Yikes, I hesitate to comment, but hope this helps!
...go into the Event Log and copy the first 20 lines. after a reboot. To open this you should be able to press these keys "shift + ctrl + L" all at the same time. "shift + ctrl + E" in Windows. |

"shift + ctrl + E" in Windows. Or "Shift + E" in Ubuntu. |
