I just want to say I have my preferences set for a 1 day buffer, but you keep sending me 20 tasks at a time. I end up aborting several because I don't want that many.

Have you tried going to Boinc Manager -> Tools -> Computing preferences and clicking on the Clear button and then the Yes button? [Edit 1 times, last edit by deltavee at Jul 1, 2014 1:25:16 AM] |

Hello Kathryn Tombaugh Weber,
I have my 3 Ghz Intel I5 system set to coomunicate every 0.1 days so I normally only have 8 tasks in my cache. Lawrence |

Make your buffer .5 or lower, that should get you less.

Just keep dropping your additional work buffer by tenths until you are comfortable with the number of WU's you get.

Hello Kathryn
----------------------------------------during the second half of June, there was several times multiple short work units which maybe turned the buffer manager upside down. However, I don't see any problems if your buffer contents more than a couple of WUs, since usually the deadline is around 10 days. Sgt.Joe's advices are OK if you wish to ensure having only few buffered WUs. Cheers, Yves ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KerSamson at Jul 3, 2014 9:16:22 AM] |

Actually thé recommended course of action for Katryn is to upgrade to version 7.2.47, the one now offered from the wcg download page. This one ignores the inter-task variability in planning tasks to buffer, rather uses the server project averages, a slow moving value. We're talking for the less layman about the duration correction factor which with version 7 gets frozen to 1.
