GPU support on Linux

Hello,

I've already read some posts about no support for GPU Project on WCG, I just would like to know if I can use GPU at all (with other projects) on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04, AMD Radeon HD 5700)?

I'm asking this question because when i executed boinc from command line (not Boinc Manager app), I've noticed:

07-May-2014 11:29:15 [---] GPU detection failed. error code 512
07-May-2014 11:29:15 [---] No usable GPUs found

in output, is this something I should worry about??

Re: GPU support on Linux

Currently there are no GPU projects or tasks here at WCG :-(.

There are other BOINC project you can try that might work (not sure with that video card), such as Einstein@home. The problem with the HD 5700 series is the lack of double precision abilities that will prevent you from running other BOINC projects that require double precision, such as Milkway@home.

Regarding the GPU issue, make sure you have the AMD proprietary driver loaded and you are not using default Ubuntu video driver. If that is not the issue, try restarting BOINC from the terminal window using the following command: "sudo service boinc-client restart" (without the quotation marks).

Good luck!

Re: GPU support on Linux

Some agent repo builds for linux have an in-build/scripted boinc load delay so the video drivers get the time to identify themselves to the system. Here's one discussion https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6307&sort=5
