Re: Running Tasks

Well it looks like you are running a Pentium D processor which only has 2 cores/threads. I'm guessing your friends are using quad core systems (or dual core with Hyper Threading) meaning they have double the cores/threads that this system has. You run 1 work unit per core/thread here at WCG.

I am assuming you don't have 2 processors but rather the one CPU of course...

Edit: added the possibility of dual cores with HT that would total 4 potential threads rather than 4 actual cores.

Re: Running Tasks

The line
4/9/2014 7:16:45 AM | | Number of CPUs: 2
tends to give the game away...

To be clear, this number represents number of cores/threads and not physical CPU's in the system. biggrin

Re: Running Tasks

Thank you for Your quick reply, so is there anything that can be done?
I have very little knowledge about computers, only the basic stuff...

To get more running at one time on that system? No. It can only do so much. However, you could get more computers. cool

Edit: You could technically run Virtual Machines, but this would actually be a step backwards since you are still using the same amount of horse power. Not to mention the overhead lost to the VM's. Now, if you ran a Virtual Machine with a copy of 64 bit Linux instead of Windows, you "might" see a faster return on work units thus increasing the amount of work completed each day and a bump in points.

Re: Running Tasks

Your dual core Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz processor is probably mounted on a socket 775 motherboard. That type of motherboard is also suited for a variety of quad core processors. Easy to find secondhand and cheap biggrin
