call me skeptical, but as a survivor of other failed projects, i think we can ask a few questions.
i looked in the AIDS section for the last 6 months already, and also the supposed "status" page. i am totally not clear on how the present work is supposed to find a treatment or cure for AIDS. i see a lot of "experiments" data and technical information. but exactly what is it that we crunchers are trying to do? there also appeared to be issues with the data lately. bottom line, kindly tell us the exact status at this time, how our present crunching work as of today is aiming at a treatment, and what are those data problems? thank you. |

I am not one of the researchers, but I will give you my take on what they are trying to do. They are attempting to find protein fragments which will exactly fit various binding sites on the virus. The point of that is with the binding site locked up, this will be an inhibiting factor in the ability of the virus to replicate or propagate. There are literally many millions (or more) ways to get the millions of protein samples to possibly bind when and where they would do the most good. Then even when they get a good binding candidate there are a multitude of other questions which need to be answered such as how to synthesize the protein, is it toxic, etc. A long and laborious process of which this basic research is only the beginning. Perhaps someone else can explain it better.

FightAIDSAtHome has found a number of drug candidates during the last 8 years. These were 'discovered' in silico. Each was publicized for other laboratories to examine in wetware (in vitro and in vivo). Nobody has been charged for these pointers. There are 8 years of reports that cover this.
Halfcard, I thought you were following this. You have been with us so long. There are a lot of drug candidates being worked on all over the world with different molecular tweaks being applied by different research labs. Some of these candidates come from Scripps from the FAAH project. Lawrence |
